Building Refresh & Remodel Experiences

Hello Collective Brain! Our Library is considering a refresh project consisting of: new paint, carpeting, furnishings, and (the biggie) all new shelving. If your own library has recently (past 5 years) undergone a similar project, could you share your experience? Registration is closing soon for the May 5 digital literacy workshop for Michigan library staff

Register now for a virtual training for Michigan library staff on creating a digital literacy learning plan for library staff, offered by MCLS in partnership with the Library of Michigan. Space is still available for the May 5 session! “Unlocking the Secrets of a Digital Literacy Learning Plan for Library Staff” is designed to equip you with the tools and a process to help you build a learning plan around technology and digital literacy skills for library staff. If you wish your library had such a learning plan in place, but you’re not sure where to start or how to organize it, then this workshop is for you! Developing a learning plan is essential in empowering staff to develop digital literacy and technology skills. In this four-hour virtual workshop, participants will learn the basics of creating a digital learning plan for their library that includes how to leverage collective strengths to build skills and how to incorporate technology competencies and create activities to help staff successfully achieve their digital literacy goals. This workshop is designed primarily for public library staff who have some responsibility or involvement in staff training. The workshop is designed to be interactive and will include small group activities in breakout rooms, and the use of a microphone and camera will be required for successful participation. Registration is just $15 and, because it is funded by the Library of Michigan, is open to Michigan Library staff. Each workshop will run from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm Eastern with a 45-minute lunch break. This workshop will only be available as live virtual instruction. At the completion of the workshop, continued support will be provided to participants in the form of six monthly virtual coaching calls. This continued support will be completely voluntary and for the purpose of gaining support in creation and implementation of a digital literacy learning plan for participants’ own libraries. This committee will consist of 8-12 people, including CSLP state representatives and frontline librarians, who can evaluate and offer thoughtful criticism of sketches. Committee members will be expected to look at sketches for program year 2023 (theme: friendship and kindness; slogan: All Together Now; artist: Frank Morrison), evaluate them from a culturally authentic viewpoint, and provide constructive criticism to ensure posters and spot art are inclusive and reflective of the diverse communities we serve. The committee will first meet in late May 2021 and will complete their work in January 2022. We have 1 HP 60 black inkjet cartridge and HP 60 double pack color we can't use. The expiration date is July/August 2017. Not sure if that matters but they are sealed packs, so worth a shot.
