*Position: Support Services Outreach Driver, Permanent Part-Time* *Reports To: Support Services Supervisor * *Primary Duties & Responsibilities:* 1. Delivers materials to the Lending Library Kiosk at Lakeshore Park utilizing the Library vehicle. Loads and unloads materials from and to the vehicle, bins, and carts. 2. Responsible for the operation, maintenance, and collections of the Lending Library Kiosk. Loads and unloads, shelves and shifts materials from, to, and inside the kiosk and maintains general order. Configures and troubleshoots the kiosk software on-site. 3. Assists, as assigned, with preparation of Lending Library Kiosk materials at the Novi Public Library, including circulation, and loading and unloading of materials from and to the vehicle, bins, and carts. Configures and troubleshoots the kiosk software by remote log-in. 4. Assists, as assigned, with Lending Library and Outreach events, including issuing and renewal of library cards. 5. Assists, as assigned, to perform Outreach Services duties. Prepares and delivers materials to various facilities utilizing the Library vehicle and may be accompanied by other Outreach staff; loads and unloads materials from carts. *Customer Service:* 1. Performs all duties assigned in the ILS Module accurately and efficiently; problem solves guest and catalog issues. 2. Performs workroom duties and other tasks as assigned, including sorting and loading carts for shelving; shelving of materials; shelf reading; processing holds, returns, and other materials from delivery; troubleshooting and maintenance operations of the AST System; answering main phone, directing calls, and making public address announcements as needed; and registering cash, check, and credit card transactions. 3. Adapts and responds to multiple priorities, interruptions, and demands; retains knowledge and stays up-to-date on current Library policies and procedures; communicates effectively with guests, co-workers, and professional colleagues. 4. Assists with opening and closing procedures for the Support Services Department. 5. Assists with the overall maintenance and orderliness of the Library’s collections, display areas, and department areas. *Other Duties & Responsibilities:* 1. Assists in accomplishing the Library’s and the Support Service Department’s goals. 2. Seeks professional continuing education, both organized and casual, with an air toward keeping services current and appropriate for the guests. 3. Enforces library policies relevant to public use; responds to emergencies and provides support, as needed; acts quickly, exercising good judgment. 4. Works positively and collaboratively across departments to accomplish department goals. 5. Performs other duties as assigned. *Job Requirements:* 1. Dependable and flexible work habits with a schedule that meets the needs of the Lending Library Kiosk. 2. High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred. 3. Administers all of the Library’s Human Resources responsibilities; accepts and compiles confidential records of applicants and employee personal information; actively recruits for high quality candidates and facilitates employment postings, interviews, facilitates on-boarding process, exit interviews and new hire training; processes benefit time and time cards in BS&A software; maintains attendance records for each employee; receives and maintains schedule request forms from employees; ensures compliance with federal/local laws and library procedures. 2. Communicates with library employees about health care and retirement programs; coordinates library employee workers compensation and risk management; tracks and reports on various key HR areas including but not limited to: employee turnover, new hires, retirements, health care enrollment; coordinates the Library’s legal and historical documents; contributes to and updates the Library’s Human Resource Policy manual; assists in maintaining the internal and external Administration and Human Resources section of the website in conjunction with the Web Team through specific content area assignment. 3. MCLS offers Foundations of Digital Literacy virtual workshop

Registration is open for virtual training offered by MCLS for library staff on foundational digital literacy topics. This two-day virtual workshop will be offered twice in March. Class sizes are kept small to allow for personal attention and interactive activities. The Foundations of Digital Literacy workshop is designed to help library staff gain confidence in everyday interactions with technology and is intended for participants who would like a basic introduction to digital literacy topics. Knowledge and skills taught and practiced during the workshop will include a basic understanding of hardware including internal and external components of various devices, how various types of networks function, the composition of webpages and websites, various browsers and their functionality, search engines and tips to perform an effective web search, how to evaluate search results, and information on digital privacy and cybersecurity. As this workshop will be presented virtually through Zoom, participants will need to have a basic knowledge of how to log in and participate in a Zoom meeting. This is intended to be an interactive course that involves discussion and hands-on practice. To successfully complete the workshop participants must have a microphone enabled, and if possible, a camera. The Library of Michigan is a member of the Connecting Michigan Taskforce and hopes that libraries of all types across the state will take part in learning more about how to support improved broadband opportunities in their own communities. This listening tour is a good time to bring together other stakeholders in your community with similar interests in broadband. Clarke Historical Library Event: International Children's Books (Feb. 25)

On Thursday, February 25, at 7:00 pm, the Clarke Historical Library will host a virtual version of our annual event celebrating children's books from around the world. The Clarke holds over 1,500 children's books in languages other than English. Each year, we celebrate language diversity by inviting members of the CMU community to come into the library, both to read and to listen to these stories in the language in which they are written. This year, we are going virtual. We have created recordings of about 30 volunteers reading in Japanese, Turkish, German, Polish, Portuguese, Chinese, French, Spanish, Bengali, and more. For this event, we will play segments of the recordings, and we have invited a Central Michigan University world languages professor to talk about the value of these books in showing how these beautifully illustrated, fanciful stories are found across the globe. This presentation is free and open to the public. The event will be broadcast via Central Michigan University's videoconferencing tool, Webex, and it will be recorded to enjoy at a later time.
