Mental Health First Aid Adults Training for Library Staff October 28
by White, Shannon (MDE) 15 Sep '21

15 Sep '21

Mental Health First Aid Adults Training for Library Staff October 28 The Library of Michigan is offering a Mental Health First Aid for Adults session open to staff from any library type on October 28, 2021. This is our sixth offering of the Mental Health First Aid classes taught by MSU Extension staff. There is no limit on the number of staff per library. Like CPR, Mental Health First Aid prepares participants to interact with a person in crisis and connect the person with help. First Aiders do not take on the role of professionals they do not diagnose or provide any counseling or therapy. Instead, the program offers concrete tools and answers key questions, like what do I do? and where can someone find help? Certified Mental Health First Aid instructors provide a list of community healthcare providers and national resources, support groups, and online tools for mental health and addictions treatment and support. All trainees receive a program manual to compliment the course material. The Mental Health First Aid training includes a 2-hour self-paced course, followed by a 5.5 hour instructor led training. Participants who do not complete the self-paced portion or attend the full instructor led day will not be eligible to receive a certificate of completion. Because seating is limited and a specialized certification is issued, you will need to agree to a number of stipulations and complete the MSU Extension registration here. Please review the details on the registration site before completing your registration. Participants who do not complete the self-paced portion, attend the full instructor led day, or do not complete the post-work and evaluation will not be eligible to receive a certificate of completion. Cancellations must be received at least three business days prior to the class. Participants who register for a training and fail to cancel at least three business days prior and no-show will be charged a $50 cancellation fee. Register here: https://events.anr.msu.edu/MHFA_Librarians_October/ This program is supported in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. If you have any questions please let me know. sdw Shannon White Library Development Manager Library of Michigan, 702 W. icon trouble
by Erin Marsh 15 Sep '21

15 Sep '21

Help! I am cataloging my new VOX books, and I keep running into records that have them listed as a "music audio player." I want them to be listed as an "audiobook player" so that the correct icon shows up as people search for the books. I have one record that shows the correct icon. I have looked at everything in the 007 and 008 fields on the correct record, but cannot for the life of me figure out which characters need to be altered to get the correct icon to show on the incorrect record! Even when I match the characters in the 007 and 008, the incorrect record's icon does not change. If you know how to straighten this out, could you please email me off list? Thank you, Erin Marsh Assistant Director/Head of Youth Services Ransom District Library 180 S.
