Questions on remote address verification for online or over the phone renewals
by Andrus, Miriam 08 Sep '26

08 Sep '26

Hello Library Minds, We had a patron comment recently about how inconvenient it is to come into the library just to verify their account and sign paperwork. It really got me thinking about our process. Right now, we rely on a driver’s license in person to verify that a patron lives within our legal service area. I’d love to find a way to let patrons renew or verify their accounts entirely from home. Does your library use address verification software or another third-party tool to verify local addresses online? How do you handle remote account renewals? Open to any thoughts, vendor recommendations, or ideas! Thanks, -Miriam [cid:0e82b7bc-0011-489e-bd15-c5f1457da0f7] Miriam Andrus, MLS Director, Grace A. Dow Memorial Library 1710 W. Friends Fundraiser Idea
by Anna Merritt 08 Sep '26

08 Sep '26

Hello All, *I wanted to pass along a great idea that came from one of our library's Friends-* A few weeks ago, the President of the Library's Friends group hosted a yard sale and donated all the profits to the Friends of the Library. In total, she raised just under $1,400! She marketed the yard sale as a fundraiser, which helped spread the word. Instead of setting prices, she asked for payment via donation, encouraging more generous giving. She made the Friends' PayPal & Venmo QR codes available, in addition to accepting cash payments. This was a yard sale she was already planning on having, so it cost her no more time or effort than a typical yard sale. We were so impressed and excited by her idea and the amount she managed to raise. We are hoping this idea comes to mind when other members of the Friends are prepping future yard sales. -- *Anna Merritt* *Assistant Director/Interloan/Adult Programming* *Richland Community Library* 8951 Park Street l Richland MI 49083 richlandlibrary.org l zv283
