As you may have heard, *Siena Heights is permanently closing in June of 2026. *Their Librarian was scheduled to retire this summer, and they need someone to fill the position for the next 11 months or so. I think this would be a good opportunity for those between jobs or recently graduated to jump feet first into a leadership position. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to stay abreast of library technology trends, implementing cutting edge tools and services that will contribute to an active learning environment. Essential Responsibilities: Reference: Managing reference activities including staffing the reference desk and guiding students, faculty, and staff in the use of Library’s physical and electronic collections; meeting with students and/or faculty one-on-one or in groups for research appointments and assignment planning. Information Literacy: Creating/maintaining LibGuides, leading information literacy instruction sessions, demonstrating how to best utilize the library’s physical and electronic collections and teaching students research strategies and ethical research concepts based on the ACRL information literacy framework and using a Critical Librarianship/Pedagogy lens. Collection Development: Selecting and deselecting appropriate library resources within assigned subjects to support campus curriculum and faculty research. Outreach: Library programming, staffing, liaising to academic departments and student groups, administering and overseeing content creation for Library social media. General Public Services: overseeing the Circulation Desk as needed, searching for missing books, taking fines, resolving patron issues, etc. Qualifications, Experience, Abilities and Skills Required: Education/Certification: Graduate degree in librarianship from an ALA-accredited institution. Professional Experience: 1-2 years of professional experience, preferably in an academic library. Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated experience using databases, other electronic resources, online catalogs, and other web-based and print resources. Enthusiasm and commitment to library public services. Conversant with emerging technologies and emerging pedagogies. Excellent communication skills with the ability to follow and give clear instructions and to communicate effectively with users and students. Ability to contribute to a positive work culture that fosters excellent customer service and teamwork Strong planning, organizational and analytical skills. Clear writing ability and knowledge of trends and changes in academic libraries. Physical Demands & Work Environment: Involves working in an office environment infrequently exposed to extreme temperatures, noise, fumes, dust, etc. Sitting/standing at desk and on computer regularly. Ability to travel to locations throughout the campus regularly, regionally, and beyond on occasion. Ability to operate standard office equipment/technology. Safety monitoring for remote staff

Hi All, Does anyone have experience or company recommendations for safety monitoring for lone workers? We have some rural branches and although we have cameras and panic buttons, we were looking into a system that is interactive with check-in service. Specifically, we were looking at the company OK Alone because it seems to be less industrial-geared. I will compile responses into a list for future use if anyone is interested. Article: eBook Availability, Licensing, and Pricing in Canada and the U.S.

Good Morning, Thought I'd share the below linked article. It is the best one I've read on the topic in a long, long time. If you don't have the time to read the entire article, or if you get tired of it after reading the first few lines, I've cherry picked what I believe to be some highlights in the article for you. That said, I encourage a full read and also widespread sharing of the article with funding agencies. The data forces us to conclude, reluctantly, that not only does print still offer libraries a far better bang-per-book than digital, but that for most popular titles, digital collections are becoming increasingly difficult to sustain. Ebooks are now 3.63 times as expensive as print. Again, this is a conservative number when all factors for print (damage, wearing out, etc.) are considered. To compare with the 6-year average longevity to match one result we have seen, it is necessary to keep perpetual costs the same and double the other numbers yet again. The result is $24,523.06, with ebooks being seven times as expensive as print. In the U.S., the audio titles are available one time for $12,552.78 ($77.97 each). We count the perpetual option for the Penguin Random House titles rather than the 1 year at half-price option—the latter being cost-effective only to fill high short-term demand. That amount is 3.6 times the consumer price. The present study makes one thing clear: Medium-sized independent publishers are often giving us much more fair terms than the Big Five. If we are to have broad, deep, and sustainable digital collections, advocacy for fair prices and new licensing models is of paramount—and ongoing—importance, while short-term refocusing of what we acquire while becoming tastemakers to create demand for often neglected non-Big Five content is recommended. Daniel Harrison, author of Michigan’s Venice: The Transformation of the St. Clair Maritime Landscape, 1640–2000, joins us to discuss how its inhabitants navigated, claimed, and reshaped the region. Daniel F. Harrison, PhD, is a maritime archaeologist, sailor, and diver specializing in the Great Lakes region.
