We plan programs, develop collections, provide school support, and create welcoming youth and teen areas. We work closely with staff across YDL and with other local organizations to serve families, tweens and teens throughout the community. We focus on early learning, hands-on STEAM, creating a welcoming, inclusive environment, and elevating youth voices. ABOUT THE POSITION The ideal candidate for this job will be passionate about serving a diverse community, empowering kids, parents, and teens to engage with and enjoy coming to the library. Paraprofessional duties assigned by the YDL-Michigan Branch Manager will include but are not limited to the following: * Helping kids and parents find books and information in the Youth Department. * Assisting families in the use of computers, iPads, digital books, printing, and other library technology. * Marketing library materials by creating booklists and displays. * Engaging with youth to help them feel welcome in the library. * Planning and leading library programs for youth, families and teens. * Attending department meetings to help set team goals and develop new services to meet community needs. * Completing special projects as assigned. * Forming and maintaining community partnerships to better serve families. QUALIFICATIONS * Associate's Degree or equivalent. Formal training in a child-related field or experience working with youth desired. * Demonstrated ability to work with families and youth from diverse populations. * Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. * Strong commitment to providing quality customer service. * Ability to function in a professional manner, work independently, and use good judgment. * Enthusiastic and dependable team player. * Creative problem solving skills and flexibility to adapt to changing community needs. * Proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Office and social media tools. * Strong desire to engage, nurture, and mentor children birth-18, their parents, caregivers and teachers. * Ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple tasks. * Knowledge of children's literature, youth development, and early learning concepts desired. HOURS Part-time, 20 hours per week (including regularly scheduled evenings and weekends). Hours are flexible and some work can be done remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic. The library is currently maintaining the safety of employees by requiring masks and social distancing, and providing curbside patron services while closed. SALARY/BENEFITS Hourly wage starting at $14.72. Pro-rated paid time off and holidays. Employer paid retirement contribution after one year of service. Our Archivist has moved on to an exciting educational opportunity this fall. Therefore, Albion District Library is accepting applications for Local History Room Archivist. *Local History Room Archivist* Starting wage is $16.80/hour for this part-time, hourly, non-exempt position scheduled for approximately 25-32 hours weekly. Under the direct supervision of the Library Director, the Archivist is responsible for the Local History Room, local history material collection development and processing, local history and genealogy reference services and programming, supervising/directing part-time employees and volunteers assisting in the Local History Room, and promoting ADL’s Local History Room services and collections in the community. The position offers exciting challenges, as YDL intends to select and migrate to a new integrated library system in 2023. Acquisitions Services work spaces, renovated in 2022, are located at YDL-Whittaker. *Nature of Work/Responsibilities: *Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, the Acquisitions Services Head plans and directs the ordering, cataloging, processing, and payment of library materials using the automated library system. Supervising a staff currently comprised of 2.5 FTE Clerk II positions, the Head coordinates a smooth workflow of placing orders, receiving and checking in new materials, cataloging materials and making them shelf-ready. Duties include: · Supervises the day-to-day operation of the Acquisitions Department, including development and administration of its budget · Communicates effectively and provides active supervision of department staff*, *including scheduling, training, conflict resolution and performance appraisal · Serves on the library’s management team and actively participates in system-wide planning · Implements cataloging standards · Oversees serials management, orders materials processing supplies, and works effectively with vendors · Manages invoicing and collection budget using the ILS Acquisitions module · Responsible for district-wide ILL requests via MelCat · Collaborates with public service departments to introduce new collections and manage upgrades · Compiles statistics necessary to evaluate the department’s activities; prepares reports as requested · Fills in at public service desks when necessary to ensure excellent service · Other duties as assigned *Qualifications and Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * · Master’s Degree in Library Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution. · Minimum three years progressively responsible professional public library experience. · Previous supervisory experience directing workflow, developing procedures, and coordinating departmental operations · Financial management experience preferred · Ability to think analytically and develop new systems and procedures · Ability to motivate staff and establish/maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, vendors, and the public · Advanced computer literacy and thorough knowledge of automated library systems; previous migration experience a plus · Ability to prepare comprehensive reports and present ideas clearly and concisely in oral and written form · Knowledge of MARC and RDA standards · Ability to make administrative decisions and interpret library policies · Demonstrated ability to work independently, organize work, and set priorities · Positive public service attitude *Salary/ Benefits: *$63,700-$80,000 annual salary.
