Greetings, Join us a series of webinars covering the topic of library millages. Each webinar will be recorded and posted at the end of the month. Registration for the series provides you with access to all 4 sessions listed below. Resistant Municipalities, election and campaign laws, and combative communities can combine and overwhelm boards and directors alike. This series is for you! The 2024 Millage Series will occur every Monday in March. Participants need only to register 1 time to attend one or all sessions in the series. Each session will center on one aspect of the millage process: Session I: March 4, 2024, 1pm - 2:30pm EST Determining to attempt a Millage How Library Funding works. How much do you need? Children's Furniture and "Monkey Mitt" Fingerplay sets

Hi All, Please forgive my cross posting. Lyon Twp. Library has a children's size table with a set of four chairs to offer to any library who might be able to use them. They are too large to go through delivery, so you would need to pick them up. The Round Table is 25" tall with a 35.75" diameter. Chairs are 27.25" tall, 16" wide, and 15" deep. We also have a number of "Monkey Mitt" fingerplay sets. These will easily fit in a small mailing envelope, so just provide your library's MeL delivery number and I will send them over. Resources FAFSA Toolkit Getting your students to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can have a high return on investment when it comes to post-secondary attainment in your building. To help Principals and other educators promote FAFSA completion, Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP) has put together a toolkit of free resources<https://massp.com/fafsa_toolkit>. Use it, share it, and let's help Michigan students maximize their post-secondary opportunities! Take Your Child to the Library Day - 2024 Take Your Child to the Library Day<https://takeyourchildtothelibrary.org/>, an international celebration that encourages families to take their children to their local public library. Take Your Child to the Library Day is held annually on the first Saturday of February. To celebrate, libraries across the country and around the world welcome families with programs, activities, and special events. Since 2011, more than 1,735 libraries have participated, serving 56.54 million people and drawing attention to the importance of the library in the lives of children. Anyone Poets Out there?!

Are you a budding poet? Know someone who is? Know any students who are? Please spread the word that the Call for Poetry is out for our 26th year of Poet's Night Out! Any resident or student in Alcona, Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Manistee, Missaukee, Montmorency, Oscoda, Otsego, Presque Isle, or Wexford county are invited to enter. Poet's Night out is a Northern Michigan juried poetry contest. You can find all the rules at tadl.org/pno. Click on HOW TO SUBMIT for rules as well as individual/classroom forms. Deadline for entering poetry is January 25, 2024. The in person Poet's Night Out event will be during Poetry Month on April 28, 2024 at the City Opera House in Traverse City. Winning poems will be published in the Poets’ Night Out chapbook, and winning poets will be asked to read their poem at this event. Smokey Bear Reading Challenge - 2024 Year-Long

Smokey Bear Reading Challenge The USDA Forest Service, in collaboration with the Georgia Public Library Service, is excited to announce the Smokey Bear Reading Challenge in celebration of Smokey Bear's 80th Birthday in 2024! They're collaborating with public library systems across the country for this year-long challenge. This challenge is meant to complement CSLP's "Adventure Begins at Your Library," and is designed to be a fun and easy way to engage children in reading about wildfire prevention, forests, and natural resource careers, while exploring their local environment. Celebrate Smokey's 80th Birthday by joining the Smokey Bear Reading Challenge. Public libraries are invited to run the challenge for those 4 to 10 years of age, from January 1st to November 28th, 2024. We are asking Michigan library systems sign-up under 1 point of contact, using this form: https://forms.gle/wmwhc8ZubCEQy2VN9 Important things to note: * CSLP "Adventure Begins at Your Library" - The Collaborative Summer Library Program is partnering with the US Forest Services and these themes will tie nicely together! Be on the lookout this winter to hear who the 2024 Summer Reading Champion is... (If you attended CSLP's Summer Symposium<https://www.cslpreads.org/summer-symposium/> last week, you may have heard about this!
