In particular, a $3-million boost was given to literacy coaches and literacy training for educators. Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) 2021 Manual The "Tails & Tales" 2021 CSLP Manual is now live! However, we have only purchased 1 access code per library, so an email has gone out this morning, directly to all library directors, with the code (we will not be snail mailing it this year, only email). If you are the summer library program coordinator at your library, please look for a forwarded message from your director. Once you have the code to access the manual, you will need to create a user account on the CSLP website, if you don't already have one. The account can be for individual, or shared among the library staff in your building, as we have only 1 access code per library. Manuals, graphics and more are available for download, printing, or you can continue to access it online through the library account. Please do not share the manual outside your library. The CSLP 2021 Tails & Tales shop is also now open, until the Library of Michigan re-opens I will not be able to mail out any catalogs, so please browse online: https://www.cslpreads.org/cslp-store/. YALSA New Teen Celebration, TeenTober TeenTober<http://www.ala.org/yalsa/teentober> is a new, nationwide celebration hosted by libraries every October and aims to celebrate teens, promote year-round teen services and the innovative ways teen services helps teens learn new skills, and fuel their passions in and outside the library. TeenTober<http://www.ala.org/yalsa/teentober> replaces YALSA's previous Teen Read Week(tm) and Teen Tech Week(tm) celebrations, allowing libraries the flexibility to celebrate all types of literacies according to their library's schedule. Brandon Library: Potential COVID-19 Exposure

Due to a potential COVID-19 exposure, Brandon Library will be closed for two weeks beginning Friday, September 25 through Thursday, October 8. While the outside bookdrop will be open, we are fine free so no fines will accrue during the closure. Patrons do not have to return materials until after we reopen. Patron Registration Cards

Hi Maggie, Hope all is well with you. Here are some answers to your questions. 1. We file our forms when someone gets a new library card to be kept until they get purged due to the card not used after a long period of time. This past purge, a couple of months ago, was over 4,000 cards. 2. When someone needs a replacement card we don't have them fill out a new form unless their home library changes. We don't find their old form and put the new barcode on it. 3. We don't require a signature for the changes to their account. 4. We don't ask for an explicit written permission to add them to our newsletter. 5. We usually don't know if there are changes to their account unless they inform us or when the card expires after the three years. Having another system in place would be nice to catch changes they have on their account. Hope this helps. Hello all - I had a patron complain that our default search engine (Chrome) is providing incorrect and biased information. So, of course wondering what you all are doing... Questions: 1. When patrons log on to your computers, does your web page pop up or do you default to the desk top? 2. If your website does pop up (or some other landing page), what search engine are you using? $1M Increase to State Aid

Our shared advocacy efforts have been successful - we have excellent news to report to Michigan Libraries!!!!! The FY21 state budget reflects a $1,000,000 increase for State Aid to Libraries. After watching the process unfold yesterday with the conference committee, the house and the senate working until late afternoon, the Governor's office issued a press release yesterday evening stating: "The Michigan Legislature and the administration of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer have worked together to put a Fiscal Year 2021 budget in place that will soon become law. It is a budget that funds shared priorities such as education, economic development, public health, public safety, and the environment." The Governor is expected to sign this budget into law in the coming days and it will become effective on October 1, 2020. MLA will report more in today's edition of "Primary Source" newsletter.
