Job Title: Production Librarian Department: Collections Supervisor: Collections Manager Hiring Range: $52,300 - $65,400 Union Position: Yes Benefits: Yes Hours: Full-time, including some evening and/or weekend hours Closing: 9:00 P.M. on November 2, 2020 Position Summary Under the direction of the Collections Manager, the Production Librarian works with teams and staff throughout the organization to produce and develop content, events, partnerships, and collections that add value to the community we serve. The Production Librarian also delivers customer service to library users via weekly shifts on public service desks throughout the library system. This position will focus on the development and maintenance of AADL’s youth materials, with specific interest in building diverse collections. Position includes some evening and weekend hours. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned: * Selects and maintains collections, focusing on but not limited to youth books, working with other staff to ensure a broad, accessible, well-used library collection. * Develops, plans and implements innovative programs and special projects for audiences of all ages and interests, both remote and in-person. * Provides a wide range of reference and recommendation services via both in-person and remote situations and online, utilizing print, A/V, and electronic resources. * Develops and expands online content and products for library users of all ages, including creation of new writing, images, audio, video, and web applications. * Works with individuals and organizations in the community to develop partnerships with an emphasis on community events and experiences. * Serves on departmental and system-wide teams and delivers related action items on schedule. * Works courteously and effectively with library patrons, library staff and the general public. Minimum Qualifications include: * Master’s Degree in Information or Library Science from an ALA-accredited program. * Eligibility for Michigan Librarian Professional Certificate. * Excellent customer service attitude. * Proven experience developing and producing art, craft, or tech events for the public. * Experience selecting and evaluating materials for tools collections in a library context. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Strong organization and planning skills. * Ability to work successfully within a complex organizational structure. * Open approach to library service. Preferred Qualifications include: * Fluency in one or more non-English languages. * Experience with art or craft techniques, or connections in the local art & craft communities. * Experience with writing and editing. * Demonstrated ability in working successfully with diverse audiences. * Knowledge of current trends in public libraries. * Creative problem solving. * Successful and relevant public library experience. STEM in Libraries survey from STAR Net.

The Space Science Institute's STAR Library Network (STAR Net) is working on a pilot study to create a STEAM Readiness tool to help libraries across the country better understand their next steps in providing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) programming in their communities. Streaming video access to stage plays?

All, One of our drama faculty has inquired about streaming video access to play performances. We have Films on Demand, and we've told him how to browse/search their holdings, and we have the ability to order streaming access on a title-by-title basis from Swank and Kanopy. He's also aware that there are plays on Youtube, with the usual caveats. Is there another good source for such content that I have missed? Free/cheap is good, of course. Bradley A. Central Michigan University Welcomes Matthew Reinhart: International Best-Selling Pop-up Book Author and Paper Engineer

The Clarke Historical Library at Central Michigan University is delighted to welcome Matthew Reinhart, an internationally renowned paper engineer and pop-up book author (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Reinhart) His award-winning works employ a variety artistic and paper-engineering techniques to make seemingly simple books unfold into beautiful 3-D objects, only to fold back onto themselves with the turn of a page.
