Part1: Library Trustee 101- November 12, 10:00am-11:00am This session will be an introduction to being a Library Trustee. What to know, who to ask and how to avoid pitfalls. This session will cover the basic information newly appointed or elected library trustees should know in order to begin their tenure governing a public library. City of Menominee, Michigan Job Posting - Library Director Background: The Spies Public Library is the municipal library of Menominee, Michigan - located on the Michigan/Wisconsin border, 50 miles north of Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Spies Public Library serves the City of Menominee and through a contractual agreement, Menominee Township. The service population is 9,645, it is a Class III library. The annual operating budget is $520,000 which consists of an authorized tax levy of up to one mill without voter approval and a recent bequest of 1.9 million dollars. The staff consists of 5.25 full-time equivalent staff. The Spies Public Library was constructed in 1903 and received a 1.6-million-dollar addition in 1997. The library is located in Menominee's Historic District on the waters of Green Bay. The Spies Public Library prides itself on providing: * Excellent service * Welcoming environment * Extensive and varied programs * Community Center * Wide-ranging collections Reports to: City Manager and the Five-member Board of Trustees appointed by the Mayor of the City of Menominee Minimum Qualifications: * Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited school * Certificate from the Library of Michigan, as required by state law for a Class III library, or the ability to obtain such a certificate * Three years of professional librarian experience, including administrative and supervisory responsibilities in a public library * Completion of a successful back ground check Duties and Responsibilities: The Library Director is responsible for the administration and daily operations of all library functions within the mission, goals, and policies established by the Spies Public Library Board of Trustees.
