ON-CALL PAGE POSITION SUMMARY Under the direct supervision of the Page Supervisor, the on call Page provides indirect services to library patrons; primarily the check-in, re-shelving and retrieval of library materials. This position is classified as a provisional position with no benefits, and is non-exempt from overtime. The nature of the work requires evening and weekend hours. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - PAGE l AND ON-CALL PAGE * Regularly empties book drops and bins according to established schedule, or more frequently as directed. * Examines materials for completeness and condition and follows established procedures for processing. * Accurately checks in items using the library's automated system. * Places items in correct location on library shelves, carts, or other appropriate areas. * Maintains correct order on library shelves by periodically performing shelf reading, correcting shelving errors as they are discovered. * Maintains established shelving quota. * Performs shelf checks and retrieval of items requested by patrons according to established procedures. * Assists patrons who ask for help in public areas, referring them to other staff or departments as needed. * Assists in opening or closing of library. * Maintains neat and orderly library appearance throughout each shift. * Stays informed of library news and events via review of all forms of library communication: website, email, SharePoint, library newsletter and blog. Contribute content as appropriate. * Enforces library policies using a polite and professional approach. * Accepts special assignments or duties in support of the library's goals and objectives. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS * Basic knowledge typically associated with the completion of a high school diploma. * Ability to accurately sort and shelve alphabetically and numerically. * Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and common office equipment. * Ability to understand and follow detailed written and verbal instructions. * Ability to work independently without close supervision. * Punctuality and dependability. * Consistent display of public service attitude that reflects the library's values. * Ability to maintain discretion in handling confidential library matters. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Prior experience in a public library or comparable customer service experience. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS * Sufficient physical agility to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, sit, lift up to 25 lbs., and push carts weighing up to 200 lbs. * Manual dexterity and visual acuity sufficient to grab, hold, and shelve materials and read small print on labels. * Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing which permits the employee to communicate in writing and verbally. * Sufficient vision which permits the employee to produce and review a wide variety of materials in both electronic and hard copy form. * Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions in a fast-paced environment. Submissions are welcomed from all types of libraries and on topics related to the theme of data in libraries. The mass collection of user data has made headlines many times in the past few years. Analytics and privacy have, understandably, become important issues both globally and locally. In addition to being aware of the data ecosystem in which we work, libraries can play a pivotal role in educating user communities about data and all of its implications, both favorable and unfavorable. The Conference Planning Committee is seeking proposals on topics related to data in libraries, including but not limited to: * Using tools/resources to find and leverage data to solve problems and expand knowledge, * Data policies and procedures, * Harvesting, organizing, and presenting data, * Data-driven decision making, * Learning analytics, * Metadata/linked data, * Data in collection development, * Using data to measure outcomes, not just uses, * Using data to better reach and serve your communities, * Libraries as data collectors, * Big data in libraries, * Privacy, * Social justice/Community Engagement, * Algorithms, * Storytelling, and * Libraries as positive stewards of user data. The Conference Planning Committee encourages presentations that are practical, hands-on, and include take-awayable tools, techniques, and/or strategies that librarians, library staff, and information professionals can implement to improve their resources and services for patrons, students, faculty, etc. We are especially interested in hearing from presenters who would like to lead a longer workshop around the conference theme. Workshops could cover multiple session times and have use of the on-site computer lab, if desired. Presentations will be reviewed and selected by the Conference Planning Committee. IOLUG is a non-profit organization that provides opportunities for individuals to share and learn about current trends in libraries and technology to inspire innovation. Donation Button Compilation

Good Friday afternoon! At long last I've finally accomplished my goal, to add a "donate" button to our website. Many thanks to all of you who sent me your suggestions. They were very much appreciated! If I'd known it was this easy I wouldn't have put it off for a month! The compiled responses are below: Greetings, one and all! Adding a donate button to our website has been on my "to do" list for a very long time. Preliminary research looks quite daunting. If you've added that option to your website, either with- or without Paypal, I'd love to hear more about the process. What's been your experience with it, also? Has it proven to be helpful? Thanks so much for any time you can spare. ----------------------------------------------------- We do have a paypal donate button the site. Getting it up onto the site wasn't a problem, and I will say the paypal was set up before I got here. But I do have some experience with paypal and it isn't too bad. We do have two recurring payments each month that bring in about $10.00 a month. Not huge, but at least it is something. ------------------------------------------------------ Sharon, There is a short video with instructions on the PayPal website. It was actually quite simple. You create a business account, and they basically walk you through steps to create a donate button, where you can copy the code you need for your website (we use Wordpress for our site and it was easily compatible). It's very user friendly, and when I did have an issue-- which turned out to be an extra space in the embed code-- I was able to call them and they walked me through the resolution. However, I can tell you that for us, we haven't got much traction with it-- just one donation so far. However, that is definitely a byproduct of our particular community and it might work well in yours. It doesn't cost anything to set up, and PayPal takes like 2% off the top of all donations for using their button. It's not bad. That's about all the information I have, but the way I learned was simply to do some Googling then just go for it! ------------------------------------------------------------------ I'm not sure if it's exactly what you're looking for, but Troy Public Library has an online donation system for their endowment fund. It might be worth contacting them to see if they can give you any pointers. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Sharon, I did on our web page this last fall. We use Square, so most of the "creating" was done there. It generated a link for me to use. I just found a "Donate" button that I liked, put it on the page and pasted in the link that Square had generated for me. So far, no one has used the link to donate any money. :( But I'm hopeful! The Houghton Lake Public Library has 12 tables with foldable legs available in exchange for reasonable donation. Asking $900. Tables were originally $100 each new. Photos are attached. Tables are 29" tall (when standing, 4 1/2" when folded), 18" wide, and 83 3/4" long. Table tops are in good condition. Some minor wear and tear on the plastic bumpers.
