We've started to offer comic books, and are wondering if anyone else is--particularly, how are you cataloging them and displaying them. For example, we started getting Looney Tunes, and will probably put it in our junior area. Other titles we've ordered are The New Avengers, Superman, and Teen Titans. The Melvil Dewey Medal is an annual award consisting of $2,000, a Dewey Medal, and a 24k gold-framed citation to an individual or group for recent creative leadership of high order, particularly in those fields in which Melvil Dewey was actively interested: library management, library training, cataloging and classification, and the tools and techniques of librarianship. The 2015 award winner was Hwa-Wei Lee, former chief of the Asian Division of the Library of Congress. Michigan Libraries - Amazon will start charging sales tax in Michigan on October 1. If you have let them know of your state sales tax exemption, what was the procedure? Call for Proposals On behalf of the Conference Program Committee, we invite you to submit a proposal for the 3rd Annual Great Lakes Resource Sharing Conference. The event will be held in Indianapolis, IN at the Sheraton Indianapolis at Keystone Crossing. This conference is an opportunity for individuals working in resource sharing to gather information and communicate with other colleagues. We invite program proposals from October 12, 2015 to January 15, 2016. Accepted program proposal submissions should be 45 minutes in length including time for questions. Proposals might focus on any of the following areas: ● Resource Sharing Best Practices ● Marketing Services ● Electronic Resources and Resource Sharing ● Workflow Improvements ● Cooperative Collection Development ● Consortial or Group Purchasing ● Purchase on Demand ● Reciprocal Borrowing ● Shared Staffing and Training ● Shared Discovery Layers ● E-Books ● Resource Sharing in Next Gen Systems ● Shared Print Projects Please submit a 150-200 word proposal for your presentation via the GLRSC website. LibraryLinkNJ is the single, statewide, multi-type library cooperative in New Jersey, working in partnership with its 2,000 multi-type member libraries and the New Jersey State Library to provide access to excellent library services for 8.79 million residents in twenty-one counties. With a $1.84 million annual budget and 6 FTE system staff, LibraryLinkNJ is a member-focused organization with a reputation for providing effective continuing education, strong outreach services, high-level support for innovative technologies, and statewide delivery to its multi-type library membership. Ryan Malloch Social Security Program

Hi all, I had a program last month with Ryan Malloch - from Innovative Investments did a Social Security 101 program that was very well received. He is interested in doing programs at other libraries so I told him I'd pass along his contact information. One piece of advice - our program was an hour and a half long - he was asked so many questions that he had to rush through the last bit of the presentation - if I were to do it over I'd start half an hour earlier.
