The Clinton-Macomb Public Library is looking to hire multiple new substitute librarians to work at any of our locations (Main Library: Adult Nonfiction, Children's Services, Popular Materials; North Branch Reference, South Branch Reference). This is also a great opportunity for students who are close to completion of their MSI degree and want an opportunity to gain field experience in a thriving public library. Wage: $20.10-$22.19 an hour Schedule: Variable, seven days a week, up to 20 hours per week Required Qualifications: * ALA-accredited MLS or substantial completion in an MLS program * Knowledge of the philosophy and techniques of public library services * Ability to provide a high quality library service to customers of all ages * Demonstrated knowledge of library materials and resources * Familiarity with popular reading materials * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels * Ability to prioritize duties and tasks and work independently * Strong oral and written communication skills * Ability to work independently * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors and especially with the public * Ability and skill to adapt to changing procedures and situations Desired Qualifications: * Experience with library automation systems, especially Polaris * Full range of Internet skills and experience * Knowledge of online information resources, computers, software programs * High energy, self-motivation and ability to work in a fast-paced library For further information please refer to our posting at: http://www.cmpl.org/AboutUs/JobPostings/Posting%20Substitute%20Librarian%20… . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Old/Historic Library Buildings & Addition Ideas

Hello all, The Northfield Township Area Library resides in a large, 150-plus year old house that is just not quite large enough anymore, so we are in the preliminary stages of planning to build an addition. The house is not designated as an historic building, but is a popular and beloved landmark in the community, so tearing it down and building a new structure is not an option. Our goal is to find a way to build an addition that somewhat maintains the architectural aesthetics, yet gives us more room for books, Internet computers, a teen area, study space, etc. The building committee would like to schedule some visits to similar libraries that have successfully added on to their old and/or historic buildings (preferably in the SE quadrant of the lower peninsula), to get some ideas, and would very much appreciate it if anyone could recommend libraries we could contact to do so. Events that Showcase Technology

Hi All - I’m apologize in advance if vendor questions are frowned upon on this list, but it seemed like a good place to ask. We are a Michigan based company new to the library market trying to show our new iPad checkout system to libraries throughout the country. I was wondering if this list would be willing to share local events where we could showcase this type of solution. Director, Muskegon Area District Library

Due to the retirement of its current director, the Board of Trustees seeks applications for the position of Director. Muskegon Area District Library serves a county of over 119,450, with ten (10) branches and an administrative headquarters, and is a member of the Lakeland Library Cooperative. The Library Director reports to eight member Board of Trustees. Responsibilities include, the fiscal, personnel, facilities and operational management of the library, experience within a union workplace required. Muskegon County is located on Michigan's West Coast known for its beautiful beaches and abundant outdoor activities. It is also home to a world class art museum and symphony orchestra. It is located 30 minutes from Grand Rapids. Minimum qualifications: include a Master's Degree in Library Science or equivalent from an ALA Accredited Program. Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in the library field including four years in an administrative position. Possession of or qualifications to acquire a Level I Certification with the Library of Michigan. Experience with building campaigns and millage elections a plus. Salary range: $70,000 - $80,000 with benefits. The position is available June 1, 2014. Applications will be accepted until March 1, 2014.
