Summer Reading grant opportunities

YALSA (Young Adult Library Service Association) has two summer reading grant opportunities. Please see below for more information Two Kinds of Mini Grants for 2014 Summer Reading/Learning * YALSA is distributing twenty $1,000 summer reading resources grants. The grant is meant to help libraries boost their collections by providing funds to purchase reading materials, especially those that help English Language Learners and struggling readers. * YALSA will provide 20 libraries with $1,000 each to recruit, train and compensate teen assistants to help with summer reading programs. Individual library branches within a larger system may apply. Applications are due January 1, 2014. Funding is provided by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. 2014 Spring Institute Program Proposals

The Michigan Library Association (MLA) is looking for people to present at the 2014 Spring Institute: Growing, Networking, Inspiring , the association’s annual 2 day event, which focuses on those serving youth in libraries, to be held on March 27-28, in Battle Creek, Michigan. The Spring Institute 2014 workgroup seeks a variety of proposals that will represent the wide range of needs and responsibilities of those in youth services. We encourage participation from all types of libraries (including but not limited to large libraries or library systems, small or rural libraries, and school libraries) and job responsibilities (including but not limited to children’s or teen services, librarians, staff, and administrators). Proposals will be accepted through October 23, 2013. ANNUAL REPORT/STATE AID APPLICATION DELAY!!!

TO: Public Library and Cooperative Directors, As referenced in the State Librarian's email sent on Monday September 30th, 2013 at 5pm, the Annual Report/State Aid application interface will shut down at some point today (October 1st, 2013). Please do not enter any data into your Annual Report at this time, as we cannot guarantee that your information will be saved when the site is shut down. The site should be available within the next week or so, and I will send another message when it is operational and ready for your input. Please bear with us as this issue is addressed going forward. I also wish to apologize to the libraries that entered their Annual Report data prior to the October 1st survey opening. Any data entered before the survey opens is purged from the system on September 30 each year and is not saved.
