Digitization Open House

Members - The Sandusky District Library in Sandusky, Michigan, has been involved in a digitization project over the past year, filming local genealogical and historical resources and providing free access to these materials via our library website (http://sandusky.lib.mi.us) In celebration of this ongoing project, the library is hosting an Open House on Thursday, October 24th from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. I would like to extend an invitation to this event to any interested person, and would appreciate it if you would pass this invitation along to board members, local historians, genealogists, etc. Light refreshments will be served during the day. New Government Documents: Followup

Well...I managed to get my work done yesterday and post before the full force of the shutdown went into play. Many of the agency websites and the documents linked to them might not be available today thanks to that. The USGS for example http://www.usgs.gov/, NOAA http://governmentshutdown.noaa.gov/, the Library of Congress http://www.loc.gov/home2/shutdown-message.html, and what I have noticed if an agency's website is still available, a note explaining to viewers that the website is not updated http://www.nlm.nih.gov/ and http://www.lre.usace.army.mil/. I did not check all agency websites<http://www.usa.gov/directory/federal/index.shtml>, though. As a Librarian, some services of the Government Printing Office that I need are offline https://selections.fdlp.gov/itemlister. The Washington Post has a blog about what will and will not remain available during this shutdown<http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2013/09/30/absolutely-every…>. Take a Minute to View Our "Geek the Library" Video

We launched our Geek the Library campaign this past Saturday at our local Septemberfest. It was a hit! We were able to entice approximately 50 people into having their picture taken for their very own Geek poster. We were especially happy to showcase our Geek the Library <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhV2Y5rDMbk&feature=youtu.be> video during the event. It was playing on an iPad the whole day. Everyone loved it! Thought you might like to take a peek too. Requesting Media List Assistance

Good morning, I am hoping other library marketers will be able to assist me. I have my own local media list, but I need a recommended list of library publications that I should be sending news releases to, this would be for major programs, new services offered at the library, etc. I would be interested in publications that also highlight Teen and Youth services. I am new to the Library world and my predecessor in this position has very, very old media lists and none of the types of publications I am interested in are included. If you have contact names/emails that would be great, or if you can just send me a list of recommended publications, I will find contact info myself. Thank you very much for all your help!
