The Library of Michigan will be providing public libraries across Michigan READsquared<https://www.readsquared.com/> for tracking their online reading programs through this coming year. The opportunity to submit a site request will begin on March 1, with two live trainings scheduled for late March and mid-April, so look for a message from Cathy Lancaster with the sign-up link in the coming weeks. A few key points: * READsquared will help libraries import any files from other online platforms, such as 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten or past registrants that created accounts for summer reading. * Pre-created programs are set-up to choose from and libraries will be able to adjust all program defaults to meet their needs, or, if you choose to design your own from scratch, the estimated staff time on program design is less than 2 hours. * A Mobile App is available. * Reading recommendations, booklists, and the ability to link to your catalog is available. * READsquared also offers the ability to track "paper program" participation, so libraries can easily collect data. * Flyers for more information on READsquared for review<https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1hgLn79y-abOdcTD-c2vSI_OMQaUeIvh8?us…>. * Not sure your library want to commit to a site? Livonia Public Library to host award-winning author Scott Ellsworth on Tues, March 8

Livonia Public Library invites you to join us for a conversation with award-winning writer Scott Ellsworth via Zoom on Tuesday, March 8 at 7pm. Scott will discuss his newest book, The Ground Breaking: An American City and Its Search for Justice, which tells the riveting story of the Tulsa Race Massacre. In less than 24 hours in the spring of 1921, over 1000 homes and businesses in Tulsa's Greenwood District--once known as "Black Wall Street"--were looted, burned and bombed from the air in the worst single incident of racial violence in American history. Thousands of Black residents were left homeless and hundreds were injured; the number of dead remains unknown. The history of this horrific event was systematically suppressed for decades, until courageous individuals fought to bring it to light. The Ground Breaking tells the story of the massacre, unearths the history of how it was covered up, and recounts the ongoing efforts to identify victims and provide justice for survivors and their families. The Ground Breaking: An American City and Its Search for Justice was longlisted for both the National Book Award and the Carnegie Medal. Resources The Welcoming Spaces National Forum is a collaborative project between the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the Association of Children's Museums (ACM). This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services Award LG-16-19-0110-19. The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the Association of Children's Museums (ACM) are accepting applications to participate in the Welcoming Spaces National Forum, which will take place virtually in June 2022. The purpose of this project is to develop and share a set of best practices in serving immigrants and refugees in libraries and children's museums. Selected participants will represent 12 children's museums and 12 libraries with experience in serving immigrants and refugees, and up to 24 of their partnering organizations. Each participating library and children's museum will receive an honorarium of $2,000 to be shared with their collaborating partner. Participants in this project will be expected to record a brief video describing their project, program or service using a smartphone or camera. Participants will receive a tripod and lapel microphone to aid this process. The ALSC-ACM project team will prioritize selecting for a diverse group with respect to geography, size, service type, and project duration. Preference will be given to participants that plan to attend the virtual event as a collaborating team. Upcoming program at the Ypsilanti District Library on NFTS , bitcoin, and digital assets

The Ypsilanti District Library is partnering with the Ann Arbor Area SCORE office and the Salem South Lyon District to offer a free virtual program on NFTS, bitcoin and digital assets on Wed, Mar 2, at 6:30 pm. Here is the program title and description: Small Business Savvy: Bitcoins,NFTs and Digital Assets Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, and digital assets have captured the imagination of the business world, artists, even major banks and some major manufactures (think Tesla). This workshop will introduce you to the world of digital assets so you can start making informed decisions about participation in this alternative monetary system. Books for Book Club Kit available

Hey Everyone, I recently withdrew some book club kits because we needed more shelving space. All of the books are in good condition, does anyone want them for their library? There are 10 paperback copies of each book. I am leaving the number label on the spines and a sticker on the front with our name and that they are part of a book club kit on it. Feel free to cover or remove them.
