Hello! The Brandon Township Public Library is hoping to begin displaying local artists' work on a quarterly basis and we are hoping that other libraries who currently have a rotating artwork display could answer some questions for us: Does anyone have a contract that they have artists sign that they could share with us? Do you have size restrictions for paintings? What kind of space/hardware do you use for displaying the work? Is there anything you have found that works especially well (or doesn't work especially well)? We are appreciative of any and all advice! Please respond to me directly. Thank-you! Therapy dog policy

Hello, Do any of you all have a policy dealing with using therapy dogs in the library (for programs, etc?). We have a therapy dog who has helped lead programs and who visits during others, and is often at the library (in the back, but available to visit with patrons if they request it) and my Board wanted to set an official policy in support of the use of therapy dogs in the facility. 2022 TALK STORY GRANT AVAILABLE Applications being accepted for American Indian, Asian, and Pacific Islander programs How do you engage with and celebrate American Indian, Asian, and/or Pacific Islander peoples and cultures in your library or community organization? The American Indian Library Association (AILA) and the Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA) are accepting applications for the 'Talk Story: Sharing Stories, Sharing Culture' grant 2022. Talk Story<https://www.apalaweb.org/talkstorytogether/about/> is a literacy program that celebrates American Indian, Asian, and Pacific Islander families' stories through books, storytelling, and art. Going on its thirteenth cycle, AILA and APALA are partnering on this Talk Story grant program to allocate funding to libraries and community organizations to implement intergenerational literacy programming. Two grant winners for each organization, a total of four winners, will receive $500 each to fund a program that meets the criteria of the grant. Planned programs can be in-person or virtual. "Cultural sharing is a valued custom in Asian, Pacific Islander, and American Indian cultures," said Amy Breslin, Co-Chair of the Talk Story grant. "This grant allows the opportunity for celebrating our history and traditions and building partnerships in our communities." Public Library Services 2022 Grant program This program provides funding for public libraries to purchase materials and supplies that meet the selected program topics for a given year and are for an identified program or service the library will provide. The intent is to supplement local topical programs that improve information access and quality of service in their communities. Governor's Budget

Governor Whitmer's Fiscal Year 2023 Proposed Budget Today, Governor Whitmer introduced her FY23 proposed budget with a $74.1 billion spending plan, the largest in state history. The Governor’s priorities for FY23 are laid out specifically on page 3 of the budget presentation document<https://www.milibraries.org/assets/docs/FY23%20Executive%20Budget%20Present…> and the Budget Stabilization Fund – “Rainy Day Fund” has increased by $51.8 million bringing the total fund to $1.5 billion. Even with increases in revenue, the Governor’s General Fund budget, which totals $14.3 billion, remains flat for Library State Aid at $15,067,700 but also continues to include $800,000 for a Library Pilot project for school and public library collaboration. (See pages 79 and 80 in the FY23 General Omnibus Budget<https://www.milibraries.org/assets/docs/FY23%20General%20Omnibus.pdf>). Other line items for the Library of Michigan take into account slight salary and program increases from FY22 for MeL and other library operations. [cid:image001.jpg@01D81DBC.20D81980] Of special note to libraries from the Governor’s Budget recommendations from the Education Omnibus (page 111, section 32n)<https://www.michigan.gov/budget/-/media/Project/Websites/budget/Fiscal/Exec…> is a $25 million fund with an additional $25 million in one-time funding to develop a competitive grant program to expand access to quality, affordable programming before and after the school day for young people. Qualifications include: 1. Serve children in any of the grades - kindergarten to 12. 2. Be a community-based organization that is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code, 26 USC 501, an institution of higher education, community or adult education program, a public library, or a local government. These programs must be used to support expanded learning opportunities, including but not limited to mentoring, leadership, community engagement, agriculture, art, music, literacy, science, technology, engineering, mathematics, health, and recreation programming.
