Microsoft Has Released A Broadband Mapping Tool
by Williams, Barbara (MDE) 15 Jul '22

15 Jul '22

Hello all, For those of you interested, today, Microsoft released its own new interactive<https://app.powerbi.com/view?r=eyJrIjoiM2JmM2QxZjEtYWEzZi00MDI5LThlZDMtODMz…> tool to help identify places in the United States that are unserved and underserved. The tool was created by Microsoft's Chief Data Science Officer Juan Lavista Ferres and the Microsoft AI for Good Lab. It aggregates public data from the Census Bureau, the FCC, BroadbandNow and Microsoft's own broadband usage data. It goes census tract by census tract, examining 20 different indicators of digital equity - such as broadband access, usage, education, and poverty rates. This data provides an aggregated score of digital inequity in the community. The link is now located on Library of Michigan's Statistics<https://www.michigan.gov/libraryofmichigan/libraries/admin/statistics> page under "Other Useful Links > Microsoft's Interactive Broadband Mapping Tool." Marvin. Serving from 1869-1891, Tenney was a pioneering librarian who's leadership and legacy still reverberates throughout the state library today. She was Michigan's first female state officer and state department head. The Library's collections greatly expanded in size and scoop throughout her tenure. She also developed key partnerships with groups like the Michigan Pioneer Society. That partnership with the Michigan Pioneer Society led to the creation of the Michigan Pioneer and Historical Collections, an anthology of personal and biographical information of the early settlers of Michigan that is still a key tool for historians and researchers today.
