18 Jul '22

Greetings! Quick note that MSU Extension has pre-scheduled Mental Health First Aid trainings<https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nRiBuXKr8T1M99zl9D5B45XMpnQq_fTH/view?usp=…> set up for this Summer/Fall, please feel to register yourself or your staff. Mental Health First Aid teaches adults (18+) how to recognize when another adult is experiencing signs and symptoms of a mental health or substance use challenge and how to help. Like a physical first aid course, learners will gain skills on how to safely and effectively approach, assist, and connect an individual to appropriate help in both day-to-day and crisis situations. This course is $45 and requires 8 hours of instructor-led training and approx. 2 hours of self-paced online work. Registration closes 2 Fridays before the course date. All of these courses take place from 8:30-4:30, unless otherwise noted. You can find this information and more on MSU Extension's website at: https://www.canr.msu.edu/mental-health-first-aid/adults<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Furldefens…> * Thursday, August 4th * https://events.anr.msu.edu/MHFA_2022_E18/<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Furldefens…> * Wednesday, August 17th * https://events.anr.msu.edu/MHFA_2022_E19/<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Furldefens…> * Wednesday, August 24th * https://events.anr.msu.edu/MHFA_2022_E20/<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Furldefens…> * Wednesday, August 31st * https://events.anr.msu.edu/MHFA_2022_E21/<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Furldefens…> * Wednesday, September 7th * https://events.anr.msu.edu/MHFA_2022_E22/<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Furldefens…> * Thursday, September 15th * https://events.anr.msu.edu/MHFA_2022_E23/<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Furldefens…> * Thursday, September 22nd * https://events.anr.msu.edu/MHFA_2022_E24/<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Furldefens…> * Wednesday, October 12th * https://events.anr.msu.edu/MHFA_2022_E25/<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Furldefens…> * Wednesday, October 19th/Thursday, October 20th (2, 4-hour morning sessions) * https://events.anr.msu.edu/MHFA_2022_E26/<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Furldefens…> * Thursday, October 27th * https://events.anr.msu.edu/MHFA_2022_E27/<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Furldefens…> Questions? Hi Everybody, Historic Voices is having a Virtual Presenters Showcase on Tuesday, August 9! Library Freedom Project: Privacy crash courses
by Meghan McGowan 18 Jul '22

18 Jul '22

Hello fellow library workers! I took the systems & policy crash course in the spring and am looking forward to the programs & training course this fall - and this may be of interest to some of you! _________________________________________________________ Applications for the LFP Crash Course on Programs & Training are now open at https://libraryfreedom.org/crashcourse/. This 10-week free course focuses on privacy for library staff training and public programming in a supportive, collaborative cohort environment. The course will cover topics including how and what to teach in privacy trainings, and important areas of focus like anti-doxxing, digital security for reproductive care, health privacy, police surveillance, understanding artificial intelligence, and more. The LFP Crash Courses are open to library workers at all levels and in all roles, though this course is best for library workers who face the public. After completion, participants are invited to become part of the LFP community, a group of more than 130 library workers from around the country who work together and support each other on privacy initiatives. Some of our recent projects include - working with teens to make anti-surveillance memes, fighting library vendor surveillance of immigrants, building an anti-doxxing toolkit for at-risk library workers, and organizing LFP Camp, a space for our members to work together and connect in person in an outdoor environment. Previous curricula for the Programs and Training Crash Course is here: https://libraryfreedom.wiki/html/public_html/index.php/Main_Page/Crash_Cour… The LFP community and our training courses are unique in the library world, collaborative, and social-justice oriented. FAQ and more information is on the application website: https://libraryfreedom.org/crashcourse/. Additional questions about this course can be directed to alison(a)libraryfreedom.org. We hope you'll join us. -- Meghan McGowan she | they
