Hello, Michigan Librarians! Your library is invited to participate in the Summer 2022 MiLibraryQuest for teens. It is SUPER easy for a library to participate and we had 110 teens from across the state submit entries last summer. Following library closures in spring 2020 and a shift to virtual programming, a group of librarians from throughout the state began meeting to collaborate on virtual teen programming. We created MiLibraryQuest, a virtual scavenger hunt, for all teens throughout the state as a summer event. We have now offered four Quests with hundreds of teens participating. Our next Quest will be held this summer from June 15 through July 31. Sunday, May 1 is the deadline for libraries to sign up to participate: https://bit.ly/MiLibraryQuest2022SignUp The theme of MiLibraryQuest Summer 2022 is “Treasures of the Deep.” This Quest will challenge teen explorers to complete a crossword puzzle by finding clues on the websites of Michigan libraries. Answers to the puzzle will include famous pirates, real shipwrecks, and mythological monsters. Teens will enter to win a prize from their library after completing the crossword puzzle. All you have to do as a library is: - Place the MiLibraryQuest logo and a library-specific clue (which will be provided by the Quest team) on your website - Promote the event to your teens (Promotional materials will be available from the Quest team.) - Award at least one prize to a teen from your library who completes the Quest (The prize is up to you!) Hybrid programming (in person and Zoom)

Hello! Has anyone held any hydrid programming consisting of in person and Zoom programming simultaneously through your library? For example, an author talk in person with an audience but also patrons who are not able to come into the library can participate via Zoom? If so, could you share your processes with me? I'm trying to wrap my head around it and I feel I am over thinking it. Thank you!

Michigan Pioneer and Historical Collections/Wesley's Works

Hello! Anyone interested in Michigan Pioneer and Historical Collections consisting of volumes 1-15, 16-30, 23, 25, 26, 33, 34, 37, 38, 40 and Volume 4 of Michigan Pioneer Collections? We just received them as a donation and they don't quite fit in our collection development but are having a hard time recycling them. Let me know, they are real pretty sitting on shelf used as decoration or display props--although I would imagine still useful. We also have 9 various volumes of Wesley's Works that are actually really nice looking old books (in my opinion)--the only problem is I find too many are pretty decorations and I have been told no more. Dare I share the love? The Watervliet District Library seeks a collaborative team-builder as the next Director. This Class II library serves residents of the City and Township of Watervliet, MI. The new Director will have the opportunity to help write the library's next chapter as renovation plans are put into place. Watervliet is a safe and friendly community that provides a good quality of life for its residents. The downtown area has an old-fashioned Main Street with antique stores and gift shops that attract tourists. The Paw Paw Lakes region has been a long-time tourist destination, along with the area’s beautiful farmland, rolling hills, quaint shops and wineries. There are plenty of activities to take part in right downtown with the yearly Independence Weekend Celebration that includes Parades, cook offs, carnival, fireworks, craft booths and more. The ideal candidate will lead the staff of three with a light-hearted approach that motivates and inspires; a commitment to being embedded in the community; and the ability to listen to diverse perspectives and foster programs and services that are of relevance to the community. Responsibilities include but are not limited to planning, developing and evaluating library collections and services; advocating for the library by serving as its official representative in the community; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with library patrons, other governmental agencies, civic and community groups, and the general public; formulating and recommending policies to the library board; monitoring and approving appropriations and expenditures; preparing annual budgets, reports and other financial documents; and supervising and encouraging staff members’ continuing education and professional development. Minimum requirements: 1. Five years library experience 2. Two years supervisory experience 3. Pass background check 4. Must be willing to work day, evening and weekend hours as needed Preferred attainments and abilities include a master's degree in library science, demonstrated leadership and organizational agility, exhibiting strong strategic and operational decision-making skills, being flexible and open to change and new information, solving problems using education, job knowledge, logic, judgment, and data to determine effective solutions, and knowledge of the principles and practices of library science, business management, program development, and administration. Salary range: $37.000-40,000, commensurate with experience and skills, for this 40 hour per week position.
