See additional details below about this seven part, self-guided series for creating and sharing digital collections: Creating and sharing digital collections is an important way that libraries can share and preserve unique local history, culture, stories, and artifacts. Digital collections offer an opportunity to represent a diversity of experiences and voices in your community that may be missing from your physical collection. Planning, creating, managing, and preserving digital collections, however, can be resource-intensive work that requires technology, new skills, and an ongoing commitment to maintain them. Understanding the full lifecycle of digital stewardship is critical to successful digital collections. This course series, designed specifically with the needs of small cultural institutions in mind, will guide you through the lifecycle of digital stewardship. This lifecycle describes the entire ongoing range of tasks and activities necessary to successfully share digital collections. If you are new to digital collections, we encourage you to take these courses sequentially; if not, feel free to choose the courses that fit your needs. Diversity Audits of Collections- Speaker recommendations and/or volunteers

Good Tuesday morning Michlib-L, I am one of a few librarians on a subcommittee, planning a professional development workshop for the Fall, for the Adult Services' committee in the Library Network. I'm writing to ask if anyone has any recommendations for speakers on the topic of Diversity Audits of collections, or has given presentations on this topic and would be interested and happy to volunteer their time and expertise Wednesday, September 7th from 9 AM to 1 PM at the Plymouth District Library . Speakers can join us in person or virtually via Zoom. We're looking for a primer or overview of the process, any considerations and reactions to audit, implications of the data collected, lessons learned, and anything else related to the project. Hello! To celebrate National Paranormal Day, the Brandon Township Public Library is holding a program tomorrow evening about the most haunted locations across the state of Michigan. You do not need to be a BTPL patron to attend, so please feel free to share with your staff and patrons. Most Haunted Locations in Michigan: The Scariest Places in the State Join us virtually, with presenter Chad Lewis, on a ghostly journey to some of the most haunted places in the state. We'll examine the entire state from wandering ghosts in the North Woods, to a haunted B&B in Detroit. Whether it be phantom creatures prowling the woods or graveyard apparitions located in your own backyard, no place in Michigan is without its own hauntings. Registration is required. As a special taxing district, Anythink has dedicated funding via property taxes, contributing to an operating budget of $27 million annually. This is a non-union organization. Adams County, Colo., is located just north of Denver with a population of 519,572, as of the 2020 census. From the bedroom communities of Thornton and Federal Heights to the rural town of Bennett and the urban industrial area of Commerce City, the populations served are diverse in a county spanning 1,200 square miles. As one of the fastest-growing economies in the country, Adams County is experiencing the change, challenges, and opportunities that come with rapid growth. As part of a metro area expected to see a population increase of 50 percent by 2050, the residents of Adams County look to the library as their community hub, an anchor for information and inspiration. Reporting to the five-member Board of Trustees, the Anythink executive director's responsibilities include setting strategic direction; creating a strong culture; managing the administrative team; developing relationships with strategic partners; overseeing, developing, and administering the library budget; and leading an organization that puts people at the center of its spaces, services, materials, and experiences offered. Minimum qualifications include 8+ years as a library director or manager and a bachelor's degree required. An ALA-accredited Master's in library science or the equivalent is preferred. The ideal candidate will also possess a strong understanding of budget and financial stewardship, experience with capital projects, and excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. A starting salary range of $150,000-$180,000 (with placement negotiable, dependent upon experience and qualifications) and an excellent fringe benefits package. Program Recommendation: The Legacy and Memory of Emmett Till

Hello Michlib-I, We recently hosted the following program: The Legacy and Memory of Emmett Till: A Story of Geography, History, and Racism The story of Emmett Till was silenced for over 50 years after his brutal murder on August 28, 1955. Since 2005, new information has been discovered about what really took place after Emmett made the famous whistle to Caroline Bryant after purchasing candy at Bryant’s Grocery in Money, Mississippi. Presenter Jim Herm will share his research into the post-Civil War South, the legacy of Emmett Till, and the start of the Civil Rights movement. Jim Herm is a resident of Otsego, Michigan and a retired Portage Public School history teacher and counselor. He has visited many of the recently opened historical sites that will be discussed in his presentation, which is intended for listeners 15 and up. Jim Herm was knowledgeable, passionate, enthusiastic, and thoughtful during the presentation. He answered all of the audience's questions and was very grateful to be given the opportunity to do the presentation. Jim was great to work with as well.
