by Gregory Hayes 25 Oct '22

25 Oct '22

Good morning everyone! I am looking for recommendations for third party strategic planning/facilities planning companies. We have had a presentation by one such firm but would be interested in other libraries' experience - i.e. timeliness, deliverables, satisfaction, cost, etc. Thank you in advance - Greg -- * Gregory H**ayes - Director*

Larry Martin World War II Presentation.
by Jesse Cornea 24 Oct '22

24 Oct '22

If you are looking into having a World War II history presentation at your library, the Brandon Township Public Library hosted Larry Martin on October 18 for a presentation of his interview with Fred Bahlau. Larry is an incredibly engaging presenter and a pleasure to work alongside. Many of our patrons came up to me after the event and expressed their interest in having him back for another presentation and we also received emails recommending we host him again from patrons during the past week. Library Digital Image Program Available for Public Libraries - Available for Winter, Spring & Summer 2023
by Corey Seeman 24 Oct '22

24 Oct '22

I hope you are all well on this beautiful day in Michigan. I would like to continue to make available to the Michigan Library community (and others) on managing and organizing digital pictures. I presented this program a number of times during September and October in both virtual and in-person (IRL) formats. In the past, I was only making this available for Michigan libraries - but I could open this up for any public library as long as the logistics & timing worked out. So please feel free to share this with others. And I am happy to expand to libraries elsewhere - as long as the timing works. Here is the program information: - Title: Managing Digital Images: Finding, Saving, Sharing and Organizing The Pictures of Your Life! - Presenter: Corey Seeman (Director, Kresge Library Services, Ross School of Business - University of Michigan) - cseeman(a)umich.edu - Corey's flickr page - https://www.flickr.com/photos/cseeman/ - Corey's personal website: https://www.squirreldude.com/ - Program page (including the most recent slidedeck used for this presentation and previous locations): https://www.squirreldude.com/photography-programs. I have been updating the slides a few times since September to reflect the ever changing environment of photo storage on the web. Program Description: Seems that everyone is a photographer these days. We use our smartphones, our tablets, and even some people even use cameras. With the ease of taking pictures, we find ourselves with a new concern. How do we manage, save and share these pictures? This program will introduce you to photo sharing services that are available from companies such as Google, Apple, facebook and flickr (among others) and how to organize them for easy retrieval. We will look at ways organize, backup and share pictures with friends and family. We will also explore how images are found by others (using tags or search terms), if you want to share more broadly. This could be the perfect session if you want to do something with all those pictures on your phone or clogging up your SD card! --end-- Realistically, I would be happy to do this virtually anywhere and could schedule anytime over the next year or so. I would also be happy to do this in-person if you are relatively close to Ann Arbor & Ypsilanti. There would not be any charge for a virtual presentation. I had lots of fun presenting on this topic and would be happy to do it again for your community. Best wishes as we wrap up 2022 and look forward to 2023! Best - Corey Corey Seeman Director, Kresge Library Services & Librarian ( http://www.bus.umich.edu/kresgelibrary/) Stephen M. Rules for staff when booking programming/community room
by Jesse Shirtz 24 Oct '22

24 Oct '22

Hello hive mind! Does anyone have a framework they're willing to share for staff regarding how they take reservations for a room that's available for public use? Do you have restrictions for groups/individuals who want to meet repeatedly for a determined or undetermined length of time? How far in advance must they reserve the space? What other parameters are taken into account? Thank you for your help! I would love to not have to start from scratch on creating this for our library. 🙂 Sincerely, Jesse Shirtz Library Director Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library 317 N.
