The AHPL is looking for an enthusiastic candidate to join our Youth Services team. Position: Youth Services Assistant - Part-Time Hourly rate: $15.00 per hour ($18.00 with an MLIS) Benefits: Prorated paid time off. Employer contribution to a 457 after 1st year. Hours: Up to 28 hours per week, including evenings and weekends. Reports to: Erin Look – Youth Services Coordinator Qualifications: * Associate or Bachelor of Arts degree from an accredited institution. * Experience working with youth preferred. * Skill in working with community agencies serving youth, including outreach to local schools. * Ability to promote and maintain effective relationships with staff, and work in a team environment. * Strong organizational and time management skills, and the ability to work independently. * Proficiency with emerging technology. Primary Job Duties: * Emphasis on service, with strong ability to communicate effectively. * Assist library visitors at the youth services reference desk * Develops and implements creative programs and services for youth in-person and virtually. * Shares the responsibility for displays and bulletin boards in the youth area. * May attend relevant workshops and meetings. * Perform other duties as assigned. Physical Demands: * Must be able to sit, bend, and/or walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to reach, and carry books or boxes of books, push book carts, use the telephone, lift, push, pull objects weighing up to 40 pounds. LM LSTA Public Library Services 2022 grants announcement!

The Library of Michigan is pleased to announce the 2022 Public Library Services grant awards! Congratulations to the selected grantees. 131 public libraries or public library branches have received grants to purchase supplies and materials for increased programming opportunities in their communities this year. The grants can be for improved or new programs related to technology, children or teens, or literacy support and range from $500 to $2,000. The total funds awarded are $223,631. The funded programs are a wide range of creative ideas from libraries throughout the state. The Library and Archives Coordinator will assist in managing the Historical Society of Michigan's modest library collection (approximately 5,000 volumes) focused on Michigan history and its archives consisting of its organizational history. The Library and Archives Coordinator will have responsibility for original and copy cataloging in accordance with professional standards.
