Home Delivery of Library Materials
by Lisa Craig 13 Dec '22

13 Dec '22

If your library does home delivery, we would appreciate learning from you! We currently offer a Books by Mail service where we select books for patrons who are homebound and send them books via USPS. We would like to expand our home delivery service, perhaps making it faster, and open to anyone. Do you restrict the number of items a patron can have delivered? If so, what are your restrictions? How do you do this without spending a lot of staff time? We are on Sierra and use BiblioCommons, and believe that restricting items may cost us more staff time than simply delivering what patrons want when they want it. If you do not restrict the number of items patrons can receive, are you overwhelmed with requests and power users? How do you deliver your items? Staff? Volunteers? Outside delivery company? How do you organize items for streamlined delivery? How do you get items returned? If folks respond to me off list, I will compile. Apologies if this has been covered recently. Thanks, Lisa Craig Collection Development Specialist Canton Public Library, Canton MI 734.397.0999 x1253 craigl(a)cantonpl.org<mailto:craigl@cantonpl.org>

LM's Library Science Collection - Services to Underserved Community Members
by Reish, Karren (MDE) 13 Dec '22

13 Dec '22

Our communities are diverse and reaching out to those who don't use or have difficulty using library services can be difficult. What materials and services are helpful for various communities? What outreach will be most effective? LM is highlighting topical Library Science titles from our collection in occasional emails. Here are selected titles on serving underserved communities purchased recently. You can search MeLCat for LM titles and you can also check our New Library Science Collection titles at https://www.michigan.gov/libraryofmichigan/libraries/libsci<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.michi…>. Click on the ANSWER catalog link and use "Library Science Collection" as one of the search terms in the Advanced Search - Notes field and you will pull only the library science collection titles. REMINDER: Titles are available through interlibrary loan only right now, as our MeLCat delivery is temporarily offline while we prepare to move to a new catalog. you can find the information on interlibrary loan borrowing from the Library of Michigan here - https://www.michigan.gov/libraryofmichigan/about/libuseguidelines/guideforl…<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.michi…>. The page reference state employees, but libraries may also borrow from the collection through interlibrary loan. Please feel free to contact me if you have any issues getting a title. Underserved Communities titles: * Serving those who served: Librarian's guide to working with veteran and military communities by Sarah LeMire and Kristen J. Mulvihill, Libraries Unlimited, 2017. * The Librarian's Guide to Homelessness: An empathy-driven approach to solving problems, preventing conflict, and serving everyone by Ryan Down, ALA Editions, 2018. * Reaching diverse audiences with virtual reference and instruction: a practical guide for librarians by Meredith Powers and Laura Costello, Rowman & Littlefield, 2019. * Serving LGBTQ teens: a practical guide for librarians by Lisa Houde, Rowman & Littlefield, 2018. * Power lines: connecting with teens in urban communities through media literacy by Jimmeka Anderson and Kelly Czarnecki, ALA Editions, 2022. * Library services for immigrants and new Americans: celebration and integration by Jennifer Koerber, Libraries Unlimited, 2018. * Library dementia services: how to meet the needs of the Alzheimer's community by Timothy J. Labor Law Poster Ordering for 2023 has opened!
by Kate Pohjola Andrade 13 Dec '22

13 Dec '22

Hello Michigan Library Friends, The ordering period for the* 2023 Labor Law Poster* set is open now. You can ONLY reserve your set (should hopefully be shipped to us in early January 2023) by filling out the form found at this link: https://forms.gle/FFFQxyCUTdjHvZn27 Labor Law Posters are required for all work locations and need to be current. Woodlands Library Cooperative purchases our sets through the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, which keeps funds in Michigan, and best of all, you can tell those aggressive and sometimes shady vendors who hound you and your staff that you're taken care of for the year. If they give you a hard time, feel free to send them to me. *Pricing*: $27 per set and there's only one option - a one sheet laminated poster this year. We will ship to your library in a poster tube, along with a copy of your invoice. Yes, the pricing has increased for poster sets, along with everything else, it seems. You can purchase a similar poster for about the same price, on Amazon Business, but it does not include any update notifications or re-prints. WLC's pricing includes any and all updates from the Michigan Chamber throughout the year. *Deadline: Friday, December 30, 2021 at 5:00pm.* The form: https://forms.gle/FFFQxyCUTdjHvZn27 Please share with your colleagues! kate -- Kate Pohjola Andrade (pronounce) <https://namedrop.io/katepohjolaandrade> Woodlands Library Cooperative <https://woodlands.lib.mi.us> 517-629-9469 / 586-801-0725 - cell/text Board Member, Midwest Collaborative for Library Services <https://www.mcls.org/> *No Reservation Recommendations* <https://nrr.ninja>: your source for colleague-approved vendors! she/her/hers Schedule a meeting <https://doodle.com/bp/katepohjolaandrade/meet-with-me>

Programming for Introverts
by Anna Merritt 13 Dec '22

13 Dec '22

Hi All, This may be a bit of an odd question, but does anyone do programming specifically targeted towards introverted adults? Or adults who might have social or sensory issues? I.e. programming intended to be more quiet and calm than a regular program. If so, what does that look like? Thanks for the feedback. Film Preservation Grants Available
by Gallo, Biz (MDE) 13 Dec '22

13 Dec '22

For those with film in your collections, there are two grant opportunities from the National Film Preservation Foundation available. See details below: Friday, March 24th is the registration deadline for the National Film Preservation Foundation's annual federally-funded grant program, made possible by the Library of Congress Sound Recording and Film Preservation Programs Reauthorization Act of 2016. The NFPF offers two types of federal cash grants that support the preservation of historically and culturally significant American films. Completed applications will be due Friday, April 28th. Basic Preservation Grants fund laboratory work to create preservation masters and access copies, and are open to nonprofit and public institutions in the United States that provide public access to their film collections. The awards range from $1,000 to $20,000. For more information go to www.filmpreservation.org/nfpf-grants/...<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.filmp…>. Matching Grants help experienced institutions undertake larger-scale projects; applicants may request cash stipends of between $20,001 and $75,000 to fund laboratory work. They must "match" the NFPF grant with outside cash support equal to one-fifth of the award. Only institutions that have successfully completed a NFPF-funded project may apply. For more information go to www.filmpreservation.org/nfpf-grants/matching-grants<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.filmp…>. If your institution has a project that fits our grant guidelines, we encourage you to apply. Should your archive be new to film preservation, we are here to answer your questions and guide you through the application process. We look forward to hearing from you on or before March 24th. ------------------------------ David Wells Programs Manager National Film Preservation Foundation San Francisco CA wells(a)filmpreservation.org ------------------------------
