Zoom presenter recommendation
by Laura Brown 06 Feb '23

06 Feb '23

Last week, CDL hosted Claire Evans and her Zoom presentation, "The Great British Baking Tour." As a former UK resident and travel consultant she gave us a delightful culinary tour of the UK inspired by “The Great British Baking Show” television series, and even included recipes. I learned of her through a national Zoom presenter webinar series, so I'm sure she would be new to most Michigan libraries. She has quite the list of other UK-inspired presentations. Check out her website: https://teawithclaire.com/events/ We had great attendance with many patrons telling me how much they enjoyed the program! Spaces are still available in the MCLS Community Conversations
by Pam Seabolt 06 Feb '23

06 Feb '23

This message is shared with other email distribution lists, please excuse cross-posting. As the Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS) prepares to embark on a strategic planning process in 2023, we want to engage with the library community in Indiana and Michigan through a series of Community Conversations. This engagement process is an opportunity to hear from our community – staff from libraries and affiliated associations and organizations throughout Indiana and Michigan - about their aspirations and concerns. The knowledge gathered will help inform MCLS's future priorities as we plan how to serve you more fully over the next several years. You don’t need to be an expert; come share your perspective! We will facilitate 12 virtual Community Conversations via Zoom between Feb. 6 and 18 at a variety of times. Some conversations have filled, but spaces are still available in several sessions. The Conversations are open to any library staff in any type of library in Indiana and Michigan. For more information, including dates, times, and links to register, please visit https://www.mcls.org/engagement/community-conversations-2023. Once you register, you will receive a link to join us. Spots are limited, so reserve your space today! We look forward to engaging with you! ******************************************* Pamela Seabolt (she/her) Manager - Engagement, Consulting, and Training Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS) seaboltp(a)mcls.org<mailto:seaboltp@mcls.org> 517-489-4069 [cid1814555188*8b7da296-f331-4281-8a7d-9858be9d343b] mcls.org<https://www.mcls.org/> | Facebook<https://www.facebook.com/mcls.org> | Twitter<https://twitter.com/mclsorg> | LinkedIn<https://www.linkedin.com/company/midwest-collaborative-for-library-services>

Join NDL this Wed. 2/8 at 6:45 PM on Zoom for "Secrets of Oudolf Garden Detroits Master Designer"
by Katie Rothley 04 Feb '23

04 Feb '23

Hello all, Northville District Library (NDL) is hosting Ms. Deborah Chud online via Zoom for the presentation, "Secrets of Oudolf Garden Detroits Master Designer," this coming Wednesday, February 8 at 6:45 PM. Not familiar with Piet Oudolf or Oudolf Garden Detroit? That's okay! Deborah will present an introduction to the design principles of the leading naturalistic designer in the world and the designer of Oudolf Garden Detroit. Piet Oudolf is an internationally renowned Dutch garden designer, author, and horticulturalist who is the leading figure of the "New Perennial" movement.. An all-volunteer grounds crew runs this 3-acre public garden located on Belle Isle. According to Oudolf Garden Detroit's website, the garden "is divided into three district areas; the Main Garden, the Rain Garden, and the Meadows," Oudolf chose perennials, shrubs, trees, and grasses because of their robust characteristics, their resilience, and changing colors and textures throughout the seasons in Michigan. About our Speaker: Deborah Chud is a retired Massachusetts physician turned garden maker, consultant, and educator, who specializes in coaching home gardeners in person and virtually. Her years of research on the world's most famous New Perennial gardens (including New York's High Line, Chicago's Lurie Garden, the Oudolf Meadow at Delaware Botanic Garden, and Oudolf Garden Detroit)have generated a unique database of New Perennial plant combinations and fostered the creation of her own highly unusual New Perennial garden. Registration is required on NDL's event calendar using this link: [ https://nvillelib.org/40gG5jE | https://nvillelib.org/40gG5jE. ] For those interested in more information about Oudolf Garden Detroit or Deborah Chud, please visit these links: [ https://oudolfgardendetroit.org/ | https://oudolfgardendetroit.org/ ] or [ https://notyourmothersgarden.com/ | https://notyourmothersgarden.com/ ] Deborah Chud - Photo credit: Deborah Chud Oudolf Garden Detroit on Belle Isle - Photo credit: Detroit Free Press Please forgive my cross-posting! Hello, I was hoping to gain feedback from other libraries that have rewired their entire building. I am interested in the cost of the project, the square footage of your library, and the company you went with. Also, if you have soundproofed existing study rooms, how did you do so. Please feel free to message me directly. Thank you!
