Oak Park Public Library is seeking a full-time youth services librarian that can help us serve an amazing community! Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the Library Director, performs a variety of duties that result in the enrichment of youth and families through the planning and implementation of library youth programs, assisting patrons with readers' advisory, the selection and maintenance of the youth collection (and department), and the building of relationships with relevant community organizations. Pay Range: Salary ranging from $45,427.72 - $51,940.07 depending on experience. Excellent benefits package, union position. Schedule: This position is scheduled 40 hours per week, with one evening per week and up to one Sunday afternoon per month. Author fair

I was wondering if any libraries have done an author fair at their branches. We are thinking of doing one and inviting local authors and Michigan authors to attend. Advertising Budgets

Hello Everyone, I am wondering about advertising budgets and policies. The problem I am finding is that my predecessor was incredibly kind to my library and advertised our name in many various local things with her own money, Yearbook, local police fraternal organizations, sports posters/programs, etc. The problem that is that while I agree that these are great organizations that I would love to support, I came into this position already have many great organizations that I already support with my personal time and money. I am curious if you have an advertising budget for these types of things and how/when you decide what to support, etc. because I am also afraid that as soon we start, we will be called even more often. Ancestry Library Edition versus MyHeritage

Any Michigan Resident can get a Library of Michigan library card, which has access to not only newspapers but also AncestryLibrary Edition. Through the recent newsletter about updating the password for the Library of Michigan card, I was able to find out access was available online with my Library of Michigan card. For those libraries that are or have discontinued their AncestryLibrary Edition, this may be an alternative solution for patrons to promote. Save the Date and Call for Proposals: The Southeastern Michigan League of Libraries <http://www.semlol.org/index.php>, SEMLOL, is seeking presentations and speakers for the Fall membership meeting around the topic of intellectual freedom, book banning, and access to information.The Fall 2022 SEMLOL meeting will take place Friday, November 18th, 2022 from 2-4PM on Zoom. In this session we would really like to dig into what it means to allow and facilitate access to the broadest possible range of information in a higher educational setting. How do publishers, students, faculty, local community members, administration, and even available technology impact your collection development and challenged book policies? What have you done to protect yourselves, your library, your faculty, and your students from limited viewpoints? This could be an entry point for talks on community outreach, stakeholder education, DEI, OER, policy development, technological solutions, copyright, etc. We know our colleagues in public libraries, and primary & secondary schools have stories to tell in this area and we would love to hear from you too! What have been your pain points on this topic, your successes, how have you formed your policies to offer protection for your organization and your readers? We are looking for a few 15-30 minute topical talks as well as a longer keynote speaker who can help set the frame for the conversation. Live or pre-recorded content is acceptable, however we would like someone who knows the presentation to attend the meeting for Q&A. Proposal Submission Deadline Is October 7th, 2022. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in community collaborations, strategic planning, and millage campaigns. We are seeking a leader who can guide our team toward growth and empowerment as library professionals. The Library has an operational budget of just over $1.4M that provides services to 28,000 Alpena County residents. This newly renovated Class V library is located in downtown Alpena, mere blocks from Lake Huron in Northeast Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. The Library offers robust community programming in a wide variety of formats and is the home of the Thunder Bay Research Collection and treasured local history collections. This is a full-time, exempt position. Qualifications: Must meet and maintain the requirements set by the Library of Michigan for a Class V library (Level 1 Certificate), MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution, 4-5 years of management experience in a public library setting, Michigan Librarian I certification, up-to-date with current issues and trends in libraries, and familiarity with small-town libraries.
