This past year we had 18 volunteers from Michigan, the highest level of participation for state, other than OHIO (we can’t let them beat us). Hartford Library News

The Hartford Public Library is sponsoring an "Local Author Showcase" on Wednesday, September 21st from 5pm to 6:30pm. Meet your local authors and learn about the books they wrote. Local authors are invited to bring their books to autograph and sell. So far the following authors are available: Laura Kemp, Sandra Bedka, Jade Heffington, Kim Stafford and Guy Martin. Light refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to everyone. If you are a creative student in grades 5th through 12th and attend Hartford schools, you can enter the Hartford Public Library 2022 Teen Creative Writing Contest. There are four categories: comic art, flash fiction, poetry and artwork(cover art). There are two groups: 5th grade to 8th grade and 9th grade to 12th grade. Each group will be eligible to win one of three awards in each category. First prize is $100, second is $75 and third is $50. All entries are due by October1, 2022 to the library. D-CRAFT Seeking Digital Collections Practitioners for Virtual Usability Test

The Digital Content Reuse Assessment Framework Toolkit (D-CRAFT) project is looking for volunteers to participate in virtual 30-minute usability sessions via Zoom to test out parts of our new online toolkit. To thank you for your time, each participant will receive a $25 Amazon gift card. The sessions will take place in September, and you do not need to have any prior familiarity with D-CRAFT. During the session, you will be asked to perform a set of tasks on a webpage. LIBRARY CLERK UTICA PUBLIC LIBRARY Utica Public Library is seeking applicants for the position of Library Clerk for 10-15 hours per week. Training is provided. TITLE: LIBRARY CLERK REPORTS TO: Director JOB CLASSIFICATION: PART-TIME, 10-15 HOURS/WEEK LIBRARY: UTICA PUBLIC LIBRARY STARTING WAGE: $12-14 / HOUR Depending on experience EXAMPLES OF WORK Listed examples are illustrative and representative of the tasks required of these positions but are not intended to be complete or exclusive of this position. Works with computerized circulation system to handle daily circulation tasks. Uses keyboarding skills to perform circulation tasks. Performs materials processing and cataloging functions as needed. Inputs library materials into the database as needed. Types letters and other documents. Handles monetary transactions at the circulation desk. Operates cash register. Counts money in cash register and reconciles drawer daily. Contacts library patrons. Performs related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Communication skills necessary to deal courteously and cooperatively with the public and co-workers. Ability to learn computer skills. Ability to adapt to changes in circulation computer programs. Mentally capable of performing all of the duties of the position. Ability to work under supervision. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES High School diploma or GED. DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Work experience in libraries. Work experience with the current computerized circulation system used by the library. Customer service experience. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. STANDARD PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Lift manually 30 lbs of weight. Lift, carry, push, reach, climb, bend and stoop when working with library materials and moving them around. Operate a computer terminal for a prolonged period of time. Work at counters for long periods of time when handling circulation functions and dealing with the public.
