FYI - First Amendment Audit Webinars
by Membiela, Clare (MDE) 09 Jul '26

09 Jul '26

Hello! Below is a notice for a webinar this afternoon that just came to my attention on First Amendment Audits by Library 2.0. Please note that this webinar is not Michigan-specific. As with any national presentation involving law, policy, or regulation, libraries should consult their library attorney before altering policies or procedures. https://www.library20.com/safe-library/responding-to-first-amendment-audits (There is a cost of $99) Library 2.0 does offer access to recordings after a webinar. Some recordings are free, and some have a fee.( See HOME - Library 2.0<https://www.library20.com/> under "Recordings" at the top of the page). Additional information on First Amendment Audits may be found: MLA Connect Advocacy Hour Archive- Managing Intellectual Freedom Through Key Library Policies- This recent webinar from MLA includes Attorney Anne Seurynck discussing policies that impact Intellectual Freedom issues, including First Amendment Audits. Access requires an MLA membership. https://mla.mclms.net/en/package/8979/course/17384/view LM Webinar Archives- An oldie but goodie First Amendment Audit webinar, "Smile! First Amendment Audits and Public Libraries." Access is free https://youtu.be/aVjKMtoMdp8 Have a great day! Clare Clare D. Membiela, MLS, J.D. Invitation to the Michigan War Dog Memorial presentation at the Pinckney Library on July 14, 2026 at 6:30pm
by Hope Siasoco 08 Jul '26

08 Jul '26

Dear Library Colleagues, (NOTE: Please excuse the cross-posting) We invite you, your family and friends to come join us at the Pinckney Library (125 Putnam St., Pinckney, MI, 48169) to learn about the Michigan War Dog Memorial on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at 6:30pm - 7:30pm. Description: In 2010, Army veteran Phil Weitlauf discovered an abandoned 1946 war dog monument in Lyon Township, Michigan, leading him to transform the neglected site into the Michigan War Dog Memorial, a "K9 Arlington" offering free, full-honor burials. Inspired by this, Clint and Krisi Symons looked at the profound impact of the Michigan site and founded the US War Dog Memorial to expand this "Michigan Model" nationwide, ensuring that fallen K9 heroes receive dignified, no-cost recognition across the country. Join Clint Symons as he shares their dream of ensuring these heroes are honored in every corner of the nation. This hybrid program is both in person and on zoom. Registration is required and can be done at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/1XI0B9WcQFaP-mU1FrF0OA#/registrati…, scanning the QR code on the flyer <https://pinckneylibrary.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/War-Dog-Memorial-3-s…> or by calling the library at 734-878-3888. This event is part of our America's 250 Anniversary programming. We hope very much to see you on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at 630pm!
