Celebrating Novi Public Library's 65th Anniversary

Great News!! We have added a payment button to the library's website if you would like to pay by paypal or credit card for the Library Quilt Raffle at Novi Library. Be sure to include your phone number in the notes. That is how we will contact the winner. Here is the link: https://novilibrary.org/65years/ The quilt is in recognition and celebration of the Novi Public Library's upcoming 65th Anniversary, and the Friends of Novi Public Library is hosting a friendraiser! You have the opportunity to enter a raffle and win this beautiful library/book themed quilt (70 x 80 inches), designed and crafted by quilter Harriet Bruce of Bay Port, Michigan. It includes t-shirts from many past library events, especially summer reading. It is made to look like a book shelf and includes special touches like a vase of flowers, glasses, book worms, an old fashion check-out card and many other details. The colors are wonderfully bright. The quilt is not specific to Novi, but to libraries in general and Michigan. It will be hung on the Library's wall at the Novi Library by the self checkout stations if you are near Novi and want to drop in to see it. The raffle will run until Friday, October 31. Tickets are $10 each, cash, check *and CREDIT CARD *and will be available at the Library's Circulation Desk. Be sure to fill out your name and phone number clearly. Put the small part of the ticket with your name and phone into the plastic box and keep the larger part. Policy Questions - Copies and Per Diem

Good morning, Library Land! I have a couple of questions regarding policies we need to add/change. Over the weekend, we had a transaction/incident that resulted in the potential need to update our policies regarding copies. A patron came in with a stack of papers he wanted 2 copies of. After printing nearly 800 copies, taking breaks to prevent the machine from overheating, and then getting a notification that the ink cartridge (which costs $240) was extremely low, I received a text from a staff member warning me of the ink issue. Do you have something in your policies that places a limit on how many copies a patron can request? Common sense should prevail, but clearly we need something in writing. Also, we have nothing in our policies with regards to per diem, so I would love to see what you have on that. We are a Class II library, but I would love any information I can get. Weeded Titles

Hi all, I am doing some serious weeding at my library, and this is kind of the first time I have really tackled this since becoming director. I am wondering, do you delete your weeded titles in your ILS system? Or just mark them as weeded? My issue is, I have been marking them as withdrawn, but they still come up in all of the reports that I run. (i.e. When doing state aid and calculating how many titles I have in the library, all items, even the withdrawn/lost/discarded titles are still being counted!) I feel like I need to actually just delete the title from my ILS in order to get them off of the reports. I use Insignia Software. Any advice you may have would be greatly appreciated! Any Issues with Worldcat??

Checking to see if anyone else is having issues with WorldCat. It started the end of last week where it takes longer to think and then crashes or it will say too many inquiries and won't search. Mittens Allegan District Library visit

Hello MeLCat Friends, Mittens finally arrived at Allegan district Library. First thing Mittens did was help Amber unpack and open MeL. Then he stopped in the ADL Lab to see the 3D printer printing mittens.LOL! Mittens was very excited to read "Remember" to the storytime group and be a part of the free giveaway of the book to the kids that visited. Mittens got to stay and be part of the Stuffed Animal Sleepover, he gave a safety speech, played the VR, caused a little mischief and got a donut for breakfast. Mittens helped Bill pack outgoing MeL books and convinced Kali to give him a ride on our MeL cart. Mittens enjoyed one of our 1,000 books before Kindergarten walls and wanted his picture up there. Mittens liked helping the kids make Halloween monster pictures. Mittens helped at the Circulation desk as much as possible, he liked meeting new people at the Allegan District Library. Then he took one final picture with the ADL Ladies of MeLCat. We had so much fun with Mittens! We hope he visits again!
