Question about Scratch Guards
by Kayla Barnish 14 Jul '26

14 Jul '26

Hi Library Land! My library has used Azuradisc scratch guards for many years, but within the past year the product seems to have changed. We've found that the newer scratch guards are much more difficult to apply and, in some cases, seem to cause more problems than they solve, especially on audiobook discs. I'm curious what other libraries are doing to protect their disc collections. Are you using scratch guards or another type of protective product, or have you stopped using them altogether? For those of you who do not use scratch guards, have you noticed any difference in the longevity of your audiobooks or other disc media due to normal wear and tear? I'd appreciate hearing what has worked (or hasn't worked) for your library. Thank you! by Susan Wess 14 Jul '26

Libraries that no longer charge fines --- do you make any exceptions? For example, Library of Things or Hot Spots? Also do you block at a certain number of days or just invoice? MCLS Virtual Dialogue--There's Still Time to Register!
by Laura Warren-Gross 10 Jul '26

10 Jul '26

Good Afternoon! There's still time to register for the Midwest Collaborative for Library Services' Virtual Dialogue on Thursday, July 16, from 10:30 a.m. to noon Eastern (9:30-11 a.m. Central). Recent studies suggest that loneliness and social isolation are on the rise. We will discuss how libraries can work within their communities to build social infrastructure and combat this trend. MCLS Virtual Dialogues are designed to provide those in the library industry opportunities to connect and engage around topics that impact the way we work. These dialogues are not workshops or webinars; they are a way to engage with others in the profession through facilitated dialogue. Please plan to have your microphone enabled and camera on to participate. Registration is open at www.mcls.org :: Virtual Dialogues 2026<https://www.mcls.org/training-events/events/virtual-dialogues/>. If you have any questions, please reach out to engagement(a)mcls.org<mailto:engagement@mcls.org>. We look forward to connecting with you!
