Hello Library Land, We recently hosted Valerie Marvin, the official curator and Capitol historian for the Michigan State Capitol. I was genuinely surprised at how entertaining and passionate she was during her Zoom presentation, especially considering it was on the day of the storm, Feb. 22nd. She gave a presentation on “*America’s Greatest Capitol Architect: E.E. Myers*,” and was very informative both during the lecture and afterward for a brief Q & A. She’s an amazing presenter and I highly recommend her. Greetings-- We have a Youth Services Library Intern position opening today. The Bloomfield Township Public Library is looking for an enthusiastic, energetic library science student committed to high quality public Library service. The Bloomfield Township Public Library is a class V Library, with a service population of 44,000+ people. There is strong community support for the Library, its collections, services and programs offered. The Library promotes inclusivity in the diverse collections and programs available to all ages and abilities. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to provide quality public service and the desire to work in a collaborative, team environment. POSITION TITLE: Library Intern DEPARTMENT: Youth Services, reporting to Department Head HOURS: Part-time, 20 hours weekly. Includes evenings and weekends. Internship limited to three years. WAGES & BENEFITS: $17.25 per hour with an increase to $18.00 after successfully completing a 90-day orientation period. Pro-rated paid time-off benefits include vacation, sick, holiday, personal business, and emergency time. Term life and disability income insurance provided. Employee Assistant Program (EAP). RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a pre-professional position that will prepare the intern for future employment in a public library. Interns will serve the public at the library’s service desks. Other regular duties include materials advisory, reference services, and helping patrons access the library’s technology services including the online catalog. Interns will work positively and collaboratively across departments to accomplish goals. Intern projects may include guided planning and copresenting programs and outreach to the community, collection development, the creation of web content, and other duties as assigned. Michigan Learning Channel "Summer is Fun" activity books & more!

The Michigan Learning Channel<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.michi…>, your statewide preK-12 educational programming hub, will be running our third annual "Summer is Fun" program, running mid-June through August 2023. Our goal is to support families, out-of-school programs, and libraries with quality programming and resources that encourage fun, community building, and learning all summer long. A huge component of our programming is our 100-page summer activity book series that we curate for preschool learners, early elementary learners, and upper elementary/early middle school young people. The three different books include activity pages for learning in literacy, math, science, and other content areas alongside fun, local, outdoor activities from Michigan organizations and PBS. All activity pages within the books link directly to a video and resource on our website so that families can engage with our video learning content while participating in hands-on activities. We also align the activity books with our broadcast TV schedule that reaches audiences across the state, with academic learning standards, and with the national CSLP theme "All Together Now." We would love to partner with your library to bring our summer activity books and more to your communities! Library Director - Sewickley Public Library The Board of Trustees of the Sewickley Public Library (PA),<https://sewickleylibrary.org/> a Library Journal Star Library (2021), seeks a connected, caring, and committed leader as its next Library Director. Serving the eleven municipalities of the Quaker Valley School District and surrounding communities with a $1.2 million budget, 21 FTE, and a single location the library aspires to be the center for lifelong learning and free access to resources for its almost 14,000 residents. As a PA Forward Gold Level library, SPL is incorporating the program's five key literacies into its programming and communications to demonstrate the value Pennsylvania libraries have to their communities. Library highlights include diverse and well-attended programming for all ages, consistent and outstanding customer service, and a critical technology assistance program for community members needing support. Key initiatives include creating a new strategic plan to guide the organization into the future; preserving a historic building and adapting it to be an innovative future-ready facility; communicating the importance and value of the library to the community and greater library profession; and developing a strong and open communication plan across the organization. Situated along the Ohio river valley and just 11 miles Northwest of Pittsburgh, the Borough of Sewickley is a tight-knit community with a strong sense of pride and undeniable charm. Greater Pittsburgh is a place where outdoor enthusiasts can bike, walk, or run along the 24 miles of riverfront trails on the three rivers and can take advantage of the borough park system while Ohiopyle State Park, Laurel Highlands, and the Allegheny National Forest are just a short drive away. The Pittsburgh region has several nationally renowned cultural and educational institutions such as the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Andy Warhol Museum, August Wilson African American Cultural Center, National Aviary, as well as the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, and Duquesne University. The technology, higher education, and medical sectors have helped diversify the local economy. New additions like the Google Campus and steadfast organizations like the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Allegheny Health Network keep the region balanced and dynamic. Responsibilities: The Library Director, under broad policy guidance and direction from the SPL board, performs professional and administrative duties in the planning, developing, implementing, and directing of library services. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: providing strategic planning and direction, supervision of personnel, creating and managing the library budget, developing and maintaining the public library collections and historic facilities, administering the policies established by the board, and overseeing and evaluating all library departments. Qualifications: Five (5) years of experience as a librarian in an increasingly responsible supervisory and/or administrative position and a master's degree in Library and Information Science granted by an approved college or university are required. Substantial experience in public service is preferred. The ideal candidate will possess comfort with technology and its role in libraries, strong leadership and management skills, excellent communication skills, energy and enthusiasm, strong support of intellectual freedom, an innovative spirit, and the ability to coalesce the organization around a shared vision.
