Harrison Township is a beautiful waterfront community located on Lake St. Clair with a number of local recreational activities for outdoor enthusiasts. The library was first established as a community-funded entity in 2015 and continues to grow. HTPL is seeking a personable, enthusiastic, and creative individual to join us on our journey. *The Youth Services Librarian is crucial to HTPL’s program of public service. Duties include:* · Planning and implementing innovative children’s programs at HTPL and offsite as required · Developing youth print, audio-visual, and digital collections, including ordering and weeding · Providing computer assistance including but not limited to Microsoft Office, email, online searches, printing using our print management system, and social media · Assisting patrons with Overdrive ebook and audiobook download service, the Library’s catalog, MeLCat, MeL databases, and all offered library resources · Working independently within the guidelines set by library policies and the Library Director · Motivating, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, volunteers, other community agencies, and the public · Assuming responsibilities for supervision of personnel and facilities in the absence of senior staff · Maintaining awareness of new developments and trends in the field through professional journals, workshops, conferences, etc. · Performing public relations functions such as preparing promotional materials and press releases, developing in-house displays, maintaining library social media accounts, and participating in community outreach opportunities that may require public speaking · Collecting/negotiating fines and fees · Other tasks as assigned *Minimum qualifications:* · Master’s degree in Library Science or its equivalent from an ALA-accredited school (students with a degree in progress will be considered) · Demonstrated knowledge of children’s programming and materials · Positive, proactive, customer-oriented attitude · Excellent verbal and written communication skills · Computer proficiency including Windows Operating System, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, online services such as Overdrive and MEL, web utilities including email and searching · Flexibility in scheduling, including nights and weekends *Preferred qualifications:* · Successful experience with Youth Services programming and collection development · Customer service experience *Physical requirements:* · Seeing, keyboarding, using the telephone, lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, carrying, climbing ladders, pushing book carts · Standing or sitting for long periods of time Apply: Only electronic submissions will be considered. Todd Rare Book Room Curator is responsible for the operations of the A.M. Todd Rare Book Room. Immediate Supervisor: College Archivist Job Type: Part-time Nature of Duties * Oversee all operations of the A.M. Todd Rare Book Room, including: * Care and security of materials and physical space. * Researching and selecting materials for display in rare book exhibits; setting up display and composing descriptive captions to explain exhibits. * Opening and staffing the Rare Book Room for public use during the academic year and by appointment. * Supporting the use of the Rare Book Room collections by working directly with students, faculty, and researchers and answering inquiries. * Managing and updating the Rare Book Room website and social media. * Promoting outreach activities for Rare Book Room collections and services. * Managing student workers. * Establishing and fostering effective working relationships with Kalamazoo College faculty, donors, and colleagues in other rare book and special collections libraries. * Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required ALA-accredited MLS conferred or in progress, or master's degree in history or another relevant field conferred or in progress; demonstrated commitment to public services; familiarity with appropriate accessioning, processing, cataloging, and preservation methods (including conservation techniques) for special collections materials; familiarity with Microsoft tools including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams; excellent interpersonal communication, presentation, and organization skills; flexibility to handle multiple responsibilities; willingness to work effectively in a collaborative team environment; sense of humor and collegial approach to innovation and problem solving. Physical requirements of the position include ability to work in a library/office environment with extensive use of computer and telephone; ability to lift and carry up to ten pounds; ability to read and write and to handle and process both paper and electronic documents; ability to move between and within campus buildings. Preferred Familiarity with a library management system, especially ExLibris Alma and Primo VE; familiarity with WordPress; Knowledge of printing and production processes for printed materials; knowledge of reference and research techniques used in the field of rare books; understanding of the objectives of a liberal arts college. Presenter Clare Membiela is the Library Law Consultant for the Library of Michigan. She helps public libraries understand and manage legal issues that impact library services. Before joining the Library of Michigan in 2016, she was the associate director for library and instructional support for the Western Michigan University Cooley Law School Libraries. Before moving to Michigan, she worked at the University of Miami Law Library as the head of reference services. Prior to her academic library work, she worked for two major law firms as a librarian in their Miami offices. She has an MLS. from Southern Connecticut State University, a JD from the University of Miami, and 30 years of law library experience. She is excited about helping public libraries by connecting them to the legal information they need.
