Digital Collection Development Policy
by Betsy Myers 26 Jun '24

26 Jun '24

Good afternoon! We are wondering if any libraries have a holds ratio policy for digital items (ebooks and downloadable audio) in their collection development policy? We have one for physical items but not digital and wonder what best practices are. If you do, could you share that with me? I can compile the information and share it if others are interested. Thanks! -- *Betsy Myers* Reference Department Interlibrary Loan/Programming *Traverse Area District Library* 610 Woodmere Ave Traverse City, MI 49686 231 932-8502 I recommend listening or reading Carley Fortune's new book, "This Summer Will Be Different"--its swoon-worthy. Thursday, August 8, 2024 ◆ 3:00 pm Eastern / 12:00 pm Pacific ◆ 60 minutes Registration: https://www.webjunction.org/events/webjunction/work-it-out-wombats.html This webinar will introduce you to Work It Out @ Your Library!<https://www.wgbh.org/foundation/gbh-education/early-learning/work-it-out-yo…> a new program for families in your community, built around Work it Out Wombats!,<https://pbskids.org/wombats> a national PBS KIDS television series for 4- to 6-year-olds. Through hands-on activities, library storytime sessions, animated videos, and a family app, this flexible program helps library staff guide families through the exploration of computational thinking. Computational thinking is a creative way of solving problems in more organized ways. When children make believe they're running a restaurant, they explore sequencing by figuring out the steps for serving a customer a meal. When they play with blocks to make a castle, they can practice the design process by creating, testing, and improving the structure. Library staff are uniquely suited to promote this learning with their library families. The webinar will cover why computational thinking skills are important for young children, how the free resources have been used to run fun and engaging programs in libraries, and how you can, too. This program is supported in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Thank you, Cathy Lancaster Youth Services Coordinator Library of Michigan 702 W. by Glen Lake Library 25 Jun '24

25 Jun '24

Hi all, A while ago, we got a 3Doodler Start as a donation and we added it to our collection as a STEM Kit. But both of the pens have now broken and it hasn't seen a whole lot of use so we decided to weed it. But we have 8 packets of the filament still remaining so if anyone has the 3Doodler Start, we'd happily send you some refills. We have 8 packs of 24 filaments in orange, yellow, blue, red, white, and green. Let us know if you ant them and we'll send them to you! Thanks, David U.
