Teen Video Game Programming?
by Anya Miller 21 Oct '24

21 Oct '24

Hello, everyone! We are working on our strategic plan right now at BTPL, and one of my current tasks is finding out some information about hosting a video game hang-out program for our teens, as we have had some interest from them for this (Yes, our teens are actually asking us for things and I am terribly excited about it)!! I was hoping to get some insight and advice to get started from all of your wonderful minds! We currently do not own any video game console(s), and are unsure exactly which one would be best for us to get. We were thinking it would be a casual gaming event, mostly MarioKart and Smash; games that fairly large groups can play together and that aren't too outrageously violent (yes, I understand that Smash is about beating each other up, but I feel like that doesn't count). Obviously, it would have to be a Nintendo system to play those specific games, but I am rather unsure which one would be best, as I am not a Gamer™ myself. If you have any experience with running a program like this, I would absolutely LOVE to hear about it! Any insight as to what consoles, controllers, games, snacks, rules, etc. you would advise or have used in your own teen programming experiences would be invaluable and deeply appreciated! -- *Anya Miller (*they/them) Library Associate Brandon Township Public Library 304 South Street, Ortonville, MI 48462 248-627-1466 www.brandonlibrary.org *ENGAGE • EDUCATE • ENRICH • EMPOWER*

Non-Dewey Nonfiction
by Jocelyn Levin 18 Oct '24

18 Oct '24

Hi All, If your library has their adult or children's nonfiction items arranged by BISAC, "neighborhoods", topics, or another non-dewey system, could you please send me an email with the name and address of your library along with any details you think are worth sharing? We're considering options and would like to know who out there is doing something different. Thanks to the TLN libraries who have already responded, I know that Romulus and Garden City have non-dewey organization for all or some of their collection. I also know Ann Arbor's branches other than Main have BISAC organization for their nonfiction titles. Here at Lyon Township, we have a collection of about 10,250 adult nonfiction items and 5,500 juvenile nonfiction items. Thanks!
