Hello all, October is Family History Month! We are excited to be hosting Tony Burroughs, author of *Black Roots,* for a program on Black Genealogy Basics. Tony Burroughs is founder and CEO of the Center for Black Genealogy. He is an internationally known genealogist who taught genealogy at Chicago State University for fifteen years. Burroughs researched Olympic Gold Medal sprint champion Michael Johnson’s family history and consulted on the Smokey Robinson genealogy, the Oprah Winfrey genealogy, Reverend Al Sharpton-Strom Thurmond genealogy, African American Lives2, Who Do You Think You Are, The Real Family of Jesus and consulted with Chicago Public Schools, New York Public Schools, Chicago City Colleges and Ancestry.com. Forty years later, we'll be hosting a presentation to remember that incredible year! He is personable, funny, extremely knowledgeable, and interactive. He is new to presenting at public libraries and would like to do it again. He is currently based in southeast Michigan. I highly recommend him as a presenter. Library Vending Machine Survey Responses

Hello all, Last week I sent out an email about Library vending machines and while many libraries seem to be interested in learning more about this service, only one library who responded (Royal Oak!) is in the process of getting one so I will share that information here. We are in the process of getting ours from Envisionware, so I can’t answer all of your questions yet, but I will give you what I’ve got! How much did the vending machine cost? - $27,855, just for the machine. It holds up to 200 items. https://www.envisionware.com/libcabinet/ What is the class of your library? - Class 6 If your vending machine is located at a private business, do you have an agreement with them? What sort of details does that include? - We will be putting it in a local supermarket. We are handling everything- stocking, support, etc. They are providing us with the space & internet connection. - Our agreement states there are not charges for keeping it there, and it gives us both a timeline to remove the machine if one party chooses to end the agreement. Does your vending machine have an insurance policy? - It will be insured with our city’s insurance.
