Penal Fines
by Patrick McGinnity 14 Mar '14

14 Mar '14

As we finalize our budget for 2014, I wanted to check with the group about the status of penal fines for libraries. Recent MLA news suggests that the threat was headed off for the time being, but I wanted to verify that. Are penal fines relatively safe for the coming year, or are does anyone know of anticipated diversions of fines away from libraries? Thanks much. Patrick S. McGinnity, Director Beaver Island District Library 26400 Donegal Bay Road PO Box 246 Beaver Island, MI 49782 (231) 448-2701

Internet service providers
by RRDL Director 13 Mar '14

13 Mar '14

Our current internet circuit contract expires at the end of June, so we are looking at our options for migrating our internet connectivity to Charter Business or CenturyLink. we have heard good things about Charter: faster bandwith at a much lower cost than we are currently paying and a relatively painless migration process, but we have not heard about library experiences with CenturyLink. Can anyone share their experiences with making a migration to either company? Are you happy with the speed of the connection? Have you experienced any significant rate increases? How is customer service? Any snafus or issues to consider? Thank you! ---------------------------- Sally Alexander and Carol Somers Co-Directors River Rapids District Library 227 E.
