Name that cozy mystery
by Jessica Holman 17 Mar '14

17 Mar '14

Good afternoon, My staff and I are stumped, trying to figure out a book that a patron had read and wants to read again. She doesn't remember the title, author, or what the book looked like. It's a cozy mystery. Google has been no help, and it's not on our shelves. Synopsis: There's a mother that owns an apartment building. The daughter forms a book club. The book club members start dying off. It might take place in England. The daughter's friend falls in love with the policeman that comes to investigate. Possibly helpful: It was in large print. Thank you, Jessica Holman Library Director Forsyth Township Public Library 184 W Flint St Gwinn, MI 49841 (906) 346-3433

Michigan Activity Pass (MAP) Program: Is YOUR Library Ready to Soar and Explore??!!
by Jim Flury 17 Mar '14

17 Mar '14

All, The new, second season of the Michigan Activity Pass (MAP) program will kick off May 24, 2014. To that end we received some very nice press coverage in the Sunday, March 16, 2014 edition of the Detroit Free Press: http://www.freep.com/article/20140316/NEWS05/303160064/Michigan-Activity-pa… and http://www.freep.com/article/20140316/NEWS06/303160058 As the article states, or should state, we have cultural partners "from St. Joseph to Saline to Saginaw to Sault Ste. Marie to South Range." The article should say South Range, not South Ridge :( In the brief period between when the article ran, and the time I am typing these lines, two additional cultural partners have contacted me to make sure they could be included in the MAP program! You should feel free to share the information in the article with your local media outlets, cultural partners, funding officials, etc. Are the patrons at YOUR library ready to "Soar and Explore" with MAP? They will be when you add the www.michiganactivitypass.info link to your library's homepage. We will have much more to say about MAP in the coming weeks as we count down toward the May 24, 2014 debut of the expanded and enhanced Michigan Activity Pass program, Year 2! Thank you for your continued support of the MAP program. One Week Before Closing! Library Director-Ohio Township (IN) Public Library System
by Jobeth Bradbury 17 Mar '14

17 Mar '14

Library Director-Ohio Township Public Library System (IN) Welcome to our town-as the next director of the <http://www.ohio.lib.in.us> Ohio Township Public Library System. The Library Board of Trustees seeks a new leader to help continue and enhance the Library's successful role as a creative, cultural, and collaborative connection in the community. The Library director will work strategically with local organizations and agencies and be responsive to the needs and concerns of staff, patrons and the community. Ohio Township Public Library System is an independent district with a tax rate exclusively dedicated to public library service. Governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees, the Library staff of 50 serves the 37,749 citizens in Ohio Township with a $2 million dollar annual budget. The Library consists of the new Central Library, and two branch facilities: Chandler, located in the town of Chandler; and Newburgh, located in a 1984 building fronting the Ohio River. The challenge for the next director will be to forge strong community relationships and partnerships while leading a motivated staff to further serve the community effectively. <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohio_Township,_Warrick_County,_Indiana> Ohio Township, consisting primarily of the cities of Newburgh and Chandler, is located in southwest Indiana in Warrick County. Nestled against a bend in the Ohio River, this community has deep historical roots, small town charm, and a thriving waterfront. While home to interesting shops, quality dining, and local events and festivals, city amenities are also easily accessible - Indianapolis, Nashville, St. Louis and Louisville are all within a few hours' drive. With a quality public school system, the University of Evansville and University of Southern Indiana, Newburgh also hosts parks, trails, and golf courses. Several large corporations in the region, such as Alcoa, Tropicana Entertainment, Vigo Coal, Toyota, and Deaconess Health System, a low cost of living and a strong agricultural presence contribute to a high quality of life. For additional information, please visit Ohio Township Links <http://www.gossagesager.com/OTPLSlinks.htm> . Responsibilities. The Director reports to a seven-member Library Board of Trustees and works with the Board, staff, and community stakeholders to establish the strategic vision for the Library aligning the Library's mission, goals and objectives with the community's needs and priorities. This is complex executive work which includes planning, directing, managing and overseeing the activities and operations of the library. The Director also works closely with the Board of Library Trustees, local government, and community agencies and organizations. Too, the Director ensures that local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations applicable to Indiana libraries and the by-laws, policies, and directives of the Library Board are being met. Qualifications. Minimum qualifications include an ALA-accredited Master's Degree in Library Science; the ability to obtain and retain an Indiana Librarian Certificate 2; and a minimum of three years of relevant library experience which includes supervision of staff. Essential attributes and skills include: vision, creativity, energy and enthusiasm; superior written and oral communications skills; demonstrated success in effectively promoting library services to the community; collaborative and consensus-building skills; experience in recruiting, mentoring, evaluating and retaining an excellent staff; and a thorough knowledge of current trends and "best practices" for library service. Successful experience as a library director reporting to a governing board is desirable. Compensation. The starting salary range is $62,000 to $74,000 (with placement dependent upon experience and qualifications) with an attractive benefits package.
