Reminder on CSLP Artwork/Merchandise for COLOR OUR WORLD™
by Lancaster, Cathy (MDE) 14 Apr '25

14 Apr '25

In a time of so much uncertainty please remember the only official CSLP themed summer reading merchandise comes from the Collaborative Summer Library Program store. COLOR OUR WORLD™ is a CSLP trademark which may only be used with prior written permission. The merchandise with the official slogan and artwork are essential in advancing CSLP's mission, enabling CSLP to produce and sell products that contribute to the financial stability of our non-profit. All proceeds from the items purchased at https://shop.cslpreads.org/ are reinvested into CSLP to fund future programs and resources. If you see merchandise that uses the CSLP’s 2025 slogan or artwork from vendors other than CSLP, please let CSLP know at custserv(a)cslpreads.org<mailto:custserv@cslpreads.org>. CSLP typically issues a cease-and-desist notice to the company, but the trademark infringements continue to resurface under new business names. Click here<https://www.cslpreads.org/rules-of-use/> to learn more about CSLP’s Intellectual Property Rules. CSLP does have a terrific partnership with Brag Tags and if you order through the link at shop.cslpreads.org<https://shop.cslpreads.org/>, CSLP receives a portion of the sales price. For a listing of additional partners, go to https://www.cslpreads.org/our-partners/. Thank you for helping us protect the trademarked merchandise that supports summer library programs. WebJunction content and upcoming webinars Highlighted Content Bite into a good book with an edible book event<https://www.webjunction.org/news/webjunction/edible-book-events.html> Go to the library and eat a book! That’s the idea behind edible book events, which blend creativity, community, and culinary fun. The Edible Book Festival is an international event where people use food to create representations of books, either a specific title or a generic ‘book.’ Hosting an Edible Book event is a fun, creative way to blend creativity, community, and a shared love for stories. Whether you’re crafting clever interpretations of literary classics or just looking for an excuse to gather with fellow book lovers, this event offers something for everyone. Best of all, it can be adapted to suit your library’s space, budget, and audience. So, why not bring this tasty tradition to your library? AI poll results: What we learned<https://www.webjunction.org/news/webjunction/ai-poll-results.html> As part of our ongoing work on AI, we launched a poll in February’s Crossroads newsletter asking how AI is showing up in your library work. These poll results will inform our upcoming AI content and programming. Let’s dig into what you shared! WebJunction Webinars This upcoming webinar is open for registration. If you can’t attend a live session, all WebJunction webinars are recorded and available for free in the Course Catalog<https://learn.webjunction.org/>. AI and public libraries: Panel and discussion Thursday, May 1, 2025 ◆ 3:00 pm Eastern / 12:00 pm Pacific ◆ 60 minutes Registration: https://www.webjunction.org/events/webjunction/ai-panel-and-discussion.html The adoption and advancement of AI technologies has been swift, extensive, and...overwhelming. After assessing community interests and needs around AI in a recent poll (summarized here<https://www.webjunction.org/news/webjunction/ai-poll-results.html>), WebJunction is bringing together a group of library leaders and technologists with AI expertise to discuss some of the main themes identified in the poll results, and their professional perspectives on the questions and opportunities that AI presents. Attendees will come away with a deeper understanding of AI and its applications in public libraries, and strategies for addressing AI with the public.  This program is supported in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. by Victor R. Volkman 13 Apr '25

13 Apr '25

This is a very special Q&A of the book club, we encourage you to share this invitation with your patrons statewide. The diaspora of Native Americans is covers our state from one end to the other. As always, there is no fee to participate nor any type of residency requirement. UP Notable Book Club presents a Q&A session about Sharon M. Brunner's /Michigan Indian Boarding School Survivors Speak Out/ *Official Seal of the U.P. Notable Books <https://UPPAA.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b1016c5c910959a236f2ff48f&i…> UP Notable Book Club:* The Crystal Falls Community District Library in partnership with the U.P. Publishers & Authors Association (UPPAA) has scheduled author events with winners of the /UP Notable Book List/. The 46th event is with *Sharon Marie Brunner*. She has published five books associated with the history of Native Americans. Brunner is an enrolled member of the Sault Ste. Marie [Michigan] Tribe of Chippewa Indians. The impact of Indian boarding schools has been devastating for generations of Native Americans, and the aftershocks continue to affect their descendants today. Michigan was home to three: in Baraga, Harbor Springs and Mt. Pleasant. The last to close was Holy Childhood School of Jesus, in Harbor Springs. The aim of /Michigan Indian Boarding School Survivors Speak Out/ <https://UPPAA.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b1016c5c910959a236f2ff48f&i…>was to both study and preserve the memories of survivors before, during, and after their school experience. /*When: */Thursday, May 8th, 2025 at 7 pm Eastern / 6 pm Central /*Where: */on the Zoom platform -- please contact Evelyn Gathu in advance at egathu(a)crystalfallslibrary.org <mailto:egathu@crystalfallslibrary.org?subject=UPNotableBooks&body=Please-send-me-the-zoom-link>, or by phone at (906) 875-3344. As a member of the aforementioned tribe, she served on the Child Welfare Committee for many years. Sharon has spent a good portion of my life either providing service or writing about Native Americans. On May 17th, 2025 she will be presenting a workshop on “Addressing the Needs of Native Americans in Literature.” at the 27th annual Spring Conference of the Upper Peninsula Publishers and Authors Association (UPPAA) at the Peter White Public Library in Marquette, Michigan. Originally a dissertation, which she wrote to complete the requirements for her Masters Degree in Social Work, Brunner soon realized that her study deserved a wider audience. I'm grateful that her publisher, Modern History Press, agreed. Now in book form, this landmark study is available to the general public as well as to scholars, historians, tribal members, and anyone interested in Native American history. Based on interviews with Northern Michigan Native people who had lived in an Indian Boarding School or whose parent(s) had lived in a Boarding School,/Michigan Indian Boarding School Survivors Speak Out/ includes the interviews Brunner conducted as well as her meticulous analysis of the resulting data, which enabled her to delineate the social, personal, and spiritual effects of this government enforced separation of children from their families, and of the lasting negative impact that resulted from the denigration of the children's Native heritage and cultural mores. I highly recommend this book." -- *Sue Harrison*, international bestselling author of /The Storyteller Trilogy/. More information about the U.P. Notable Book list, /U.P. Storybook Trail Book Selection Policy?
by Keegan M Sulecki 12 Apr '25

12 Apr '25

Hi Everyone, I was wondering if anyone had created a book selection policy for selecting books to use in their Storybook Trail? We've had a couple of issues crop up, including self-published authors being very insistent about our using their books for our trail and, unfortunately, a couple of complaints regarding our choices, which means professional reviews are very important to have on hand for any installation. We are exploring creating an official policy regarding the selection of books for the Trail or adding on some verbiage to our existing policies to address it. I would really appreciate hearing from other libraries about how their Storybook Trail has been addressed in any policies. Thanks in advance for sharing!
