E-Rate Question from Marian
by Knox,Sheryl Cormicle 05 Nov '14

05 Nov '14

Posting for Marian the Librarian from Lake Neverwuz Library: I overheard a colleague, Mindy Sue. She had a great suggestion for getting started with E-Rate. She said consider hiring a consultant for the first year if you're new to it. You'll learn all the paperwork and figures you'll need for subsequent years and you can watch the consultant navigate the forms and process. Then, you might not need a consultant after year one. Does anyone on here use an E-rate consultant they would recommend? Do I have to have a lot of money up front to try this route? Thanks, Marian

Sending Patrons to Collections
by Robert Chartrand 05 Nov '14

05 Nov '14

Hello Everyone, Quick question: what are your library's policies on sending patrons to a collection agency? How many fines must they owe and for what length of time? Do they only get sent when they have items checked out? That sort of thing. Thank you in advance! Luce County Millage for Tahquamenon Area Library
by Dion Mindykowski 05 Nov '14

05 Nov '14

Hello, We are happy to announce that a millage renewal was successful last night. We had 1,141 yes votes and 710 no votes. A typo on the ballot, calling this an increase rather the renewal it truly was, made things a little stressful, but the community came through to show their support. Congratulations to all those libraries that also had positive outcomes last night. Thank you, Dion Mindykowski, Director

Two events coming up at the Warren Civic Center in December
by fabak＠libcoop.net 05 Nov '14

05 Nov '14

Hello, We would like to tell you about two programs coming up at the Warren Civic Center in December: Thursday, December 11 at 6:00 Bob Morris is the author of Built in Detroit: A Story of the UAW, a Company, and a Gangster. As the son of labor leader Ken Morris, Bob grew up knowing many of the great labor leaders of our state. In Built in Detroit, Bob explores the beginning of the United Auto Workers, the battles with the companies, the union’s internal struggles and the company-instigated violence that followed. With vivid description and suspenseful storytelling, Bob covers the brutal attack against his father and the assassination attempts against Walter Reuther and his brother Victor. Bob will join us for a presentation and book signing. Thursday, December 18 at 6:00 For more than 30 years theater and speech educator Jim Glenn has made presentations about William Shakespeare to schools, libraries, theaters, private acting studios and senior groups. Mr. Glenn’s lively and informative talks set the Bard against a rich description of Elizabethan times—surprising and delighting audiences with intriguing details of the author’s life and work. I am attaching our flyers for the events in case you would like to print some for your patrons. All are welcome! If you have any questions or need additional information please let me know. Thank you. Kathy Faba Branch Librarian Warren Public Library Warren, MI

Cromaine District Library Ballot Proposal fails by 94 votes--unofficial results
by Ceci Marlow 05 Nov '14

05 Nov '14

But likely to stand. At 11:45 pm, the last two precincts reported in and the proposal passed by 11 votes. That's what got reported on WDIV and the Livingston County Daily Press-Argus. At 12:19 am, more votes, likely absent voter ballots from one of the boards, came in and the proposal failed by 94 votes. We are grateful for the wonderful support, the incredible energy and hard work of our volunteers, and the many yes votes we did see--49.5% in favor, 50.5% opposed. And, Cromaine will continue to be the very best library it can be in service to this community, whatever the circumstances. ceci
