Michigan Reconnect Scholarship - information for your library community!
by Lancaster, Cathy (MDE) 09 Sep '26

09 Sep '26

Hello, MiLEAP is asking for Michigan libraries to ensure that Michiganders are aware of the Michigan Reconnect Scholarship opportunity so people in your communities can access affordable education, improve their career prospects, and contribute to the economic growth in both the state and your communities. The Michigan Reconnect Scholarship is an opportunity that provides a tuition-free pathway to community college for Michiganders who are 25 years or older and do not have an associate or bachelor’s degree. The scholarship allows individuals to earn an associate degree or skills certificate. MiLEAP would like to encourage you to access their Michigan Reconnect Scholarship Toolkit<https://www.michigan.gov/reconnect/toolkit> and here<https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/19IP2lHAF3xnhUWPDrKFPyf3jeVb1naNZ?us…> are some additional informational flyers and images to use for promoting this wonderful opportunity out to your community. Consider joining a CSLP committee!
by Lancaster, Cathy (MDE) 09 Sep '26

09 Sep '26

Volunteering for a Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) committee is a great opportunity to develop professionally while also contributing to the CSLP mission. Our committees are the lifeblood of CSLP. Volunteers play a significant role in the success of our organization and programs. While the duties vary, committee obligations generally run for one calendar year. However, CSLP is in the process of changing committee timelines. The obligation for this set of volunteers will run from January 2027 - May 2027 (with a new window of service opening up come summer). Volunteers for the Manual Committees may begin their work before January. All committee work is done virtually, either through email, phone, or online meetings. Attending the CSLP Annual Meeting is not expected for committee volunteers. We are recruiting for all committees, except the Artwork committee. Most CSLP committees are open to all, however some have limited seats or require previous CSLP experience. Before volunteering, please visit https://www.cslpreads.org/committees/<https://cslpreads.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=043a7515ceb3ad45bdd2dd…> to review the committee descriptions. Apply now! - CSLP Committee Application form<https://forms.gle/RqAhXkvbtk9G8wFh6> Sign-up period is now through October 15. For questions about committees, please contact myself or Jennifer Redford<mailto:jennifer.redford@libraries.idaho.gov>, CSLP President-Elect. Puzzle Swap and Social Program -- Thoughts and Advice Appreciated
by bhamilton＠ypsilibrary.org 09 Sep '26

09 Sep '26

Hello! Ypsilanti District Library is looking to do a puzzle swap and social event where folks can donate puzzles (mainly before the event, hopefully) for tickets, which can at the time and date of the program be exchanged for other donated puzzles. We would also have light refreshments, a selection of our own circulating puzzles for check out, and a few tables set up to work a puzzle during the event if desired. For anyone who ran a similar event, just throwing it out there for any best practices or lessons learned, especially if you have any thoughts on: Did you have people drop off puzzles in advance or did you have people bring/swap puzzles during the event? Did you limit the number of puzzles to swap per person? How did you experience traffic during the event? Did everyone come all at once, in the beginning, or was traffic spread out over the course of the event? Did you allow anyone who did not bring a puzzle to swap to take a puzzle during the event? Did you charge them, or did you let them have a puzzle for free? Did you do just a swap, or did you do a swap and a sale? If you did a sale, did the profit go to the library or to your Friends group? How many people did it take to run the swap (including sorting puzzles in advance if you did that)? Thank you!!

Backyard Chicken Program
by Deb Biggs Tenbusch 09 Sep '26

09 Sep '26

Hello Amazing Library Programmers! Has anyone--especially in the SE MI area--done a backyard chicken program? If so, do you have a speaker you can recommend? I have contacted the MSU extension here in Oakland County, but am waiting to hear back if they can do that kind of presentation. I also have a practitioner lined up to share her experience, but really need someone to talk about the "mechanics" of it all. Many thanks in advance! SUMMER READING SURVEY NOW OPEN!
by Williams, Barbara (MDE) 09 Sep '26

09 Sep '26

[cid:image001.jpg@01DD1826.CBB62A40] The Collaborative Summer Library Program's (CSLP) annual survey is now open and will close Friday, September 14, 2026. CSLP has created a survey so they can better assess the usefulness of the materials offered by the program on a national level to better serve you, the CSLP membership! All public libraries in Michigan are CSLP members thanks to the Library of Michigan with support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The survey can be found here: https://forms.gle/QKN5qduWz9QRV8nf8 If you would like to view the survey in PDF form before completing it, you can find that here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10eiU10iKoV2zapQmWj9HWHVbLfycnPSk/view FAQs Who should complete this survey? The audience for the survey is public library staff who played an active role in administering or running 2026 summer library programming. One person per library could fill it out, or multiple library staff from the same library could complete the sections of the survey most relevant to their work, e.g. children, teen, or adult programs. * Please coordinate with your colleagues on who will fill it out, especially if you are in a multi-branch system. * This does NOT need to be filled out by Directors. (Adult/YA/Children program overseers can complete their own portions.) * EVEN IF YOU DID NOT USE "UNEARTH A STORY" AS YOUR THEME, we invite you to complete the survey! Is this survey required? No, it is not required, but we would appreciate your input. Every library that responds helps us get a more accurate picture of overall satisfaction with the program. I want to be prepared. What info will I need to provide? * General feedback on using (or not) the 2026 program theme and materials; * Feedback and info about how/whether you tracked participation, as well as stats for participation and programming for children (ages 0-11), teens (12-18) and adults. You may skip some questions for which you don't have the answers. I suggest you wait until your summer program has ended to complete the survey. When does the survey close? The survey is open from now until Friday, September 14, 2026. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you in advance for sharing your input!
