August is flying!? In preparation for the new school year, the Library of Michigan has put together a week long training on Michigan eLibrary resources so you can help your pre-schoolers through 4 graders when they're back in school this Fall! The week of August 25th the following libraries will host our vendor trainers in a day long session at which you will learning how the eResources found most easily in MeL's Kids Gateway (Homework Helpers), http://mel.org/kids can best be used with your youth, students and so you can inform their parents and teachers, and academic librarians, your pre-service teachers and faculty! Each session will run 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with training beginning at 9:00 a.m. Five vendors will be joining us this week to showcase the eResources that we make available statewide in MeL: Gale, ProQuest, EBSCO, Scholastic, and WorldBook. The trainers will take you through their resources and show you how they align to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Morning coffee and lunch provided. Hello, If you are looking for a couple interesting authors to have a program at your library, here are a couple suggestions. Author David Charles Stieler has written about a tragic accident that happened to him and his wife, and their determination to survive it. It is an uplifting story. He is a fun and interesting person. There was no charge to have him come, I don't know if he may charge any mileage. You can find him on Facebook.com or call 989-737-4674 Another author that will come at no cost (they usually will bring their books to sell) is Christine Pechacek (pea-ah-cek). She is an author and Legacy coach. She is creator of Share Your Story, Leave Your Legacy, she will do workshops also, she encourages people to share their story to pass down to their kids and grandchildren. She has written two books. Great presentation on Gone with the Wind book and film

Morton Township Library engaged Kathleen Marcaccio from Royal Oak for a talk on Margaret Mitchell's _Gone With The Wind: The Book and Film_ last week. The audience enjoyed her presentation. Ms. Marcaccio is very knowledgeable on this subject and had a great display of memorabilia. So if you are interested in presenting a talk during this 75th anniversary of this great film, the staff and I highly recommend Ms. Marcaccio.
