Oversize paperback labeling...

Good morning! We order a number of oversize paperbacks and have noticed some of the recent books have almost a fabric feel to them. Of course, the label and spine protectors that we use do not adhere very well to this type of surface. Does anyone have any suggestions (outside of covering the entire paperback, which we don't want to do) for getting our protectors to sticks? Any help would be much appreciated! The successful candidate will be a catalyst and facilitator helping individual libraries provide strong collaborative technology services to their local customers. This is an opportunity for the right person to be an equal contributor on a strong, committed System leadership team. Focusing on moving the System forward, the IT Manager will envision, design and implement technologies that enhance and support the mission of the System and its member libraries. With a staff of 19, a $2 million annual budget, and governed by a seven member Board, the System is responsible for 14 member libraries, three branches and a bookmobile serving 519,462 residents. Established in 1987, the System's mission is to provide countywide services and cooperative programs through a cost effective network of technology, facilities and resources. Shared and centralized services include, but are not limited to, public Internet access, a shared ILS system, database subscriptions, technical services, cooperative purchasing, consulting services, and broad technology support. The IT Manager works as a member of the System's executive leadership team and reports to the System Administrator. This position is responsible for developing a strategic vision in conjunction with the System Administrator and the Technology Planning Committee, creating and implementing a Department master plan, creating and maintaining the Department's budget, managing the day-to-day operations of the IT Services Department, serving as the liaison to the System Administrator and the member libraries, monitoring and evaluating developing technologies for enhancing new services, and representing the System to community groups and organizations. FILMSTRIPS & PROJECTORS!!

Hi Library Folk - we have been doing a lot of cleaning here at the Hazel Park Library because of a recent basement leak which resulted in installing a new tile floor and moving all the boxes of craft supplies we have been acquiring over the last 13 years. In our cleanout and reorganization we unearthed the following treasures that are just waiting for a good home: 1 Vuaid Filmstrip Ceiling Projector model 20-1 1 Viewlex Previewer Junior no. 2 2 - 6 drawer metal file cabinets (about 12 x 20) - containing approx. 500 filmstrips Projected Books Inc. (Ann Arbor, MI) 8 boxes (with 10 reels of filmstrips) for adult level, juvenile level and junior high level titles) This is the "motherload" of filmstrips for a library that is interested in obtaining them. The conference will work to achieve the following goals and outcomes. - *Provide quality professional development for those serving youth in libraries.* - Attendees will gain at least three ideas that they can apply or adapt at their libraries. - *Enable an opportunity for those serving youth in libraries to exchange relevant, actionable knowledge through networking.* - Attendees will connect with new professional contacts with whom they can exchange ideas. - Attendees will build professional relationships that will provide future support. - *Revitalize and inspire those serving youth in libraries.* - Attendees will return to their library with renewed enthusiasm for their work. *Program Submission General Guidelines* - Program submitter may or may not also be the presenter. Either is acceptable. - Communications by MLA will be to all members who are a part of your submission. Contact information is required for each presenter. - Presenters are not reimbursed or compensated for session time, mileage, or any other such item. - Presenters must register for the day(s) they attend Spring Institute if they intend to stay beyond their allotted presentation time. *Agreements and Selection Notification* - MLA will contact each program’s submitter and subsequent presenters in regards to final decisions on or before October 28. - MLA will send all presenters a Presenter Agreement indicating date, time, and details of their presentation. This will be confirmed by the presenter and returned to MLA. *Program AV & Room Setup* - All presentation rooms will be supplied with a projector and screen; a microphone will be available as applicable. - Internet access may be available but is not guaranteed. *Be sure to indicate if Internet access is required on the submission form.* - Presenters will provide their own laptops and have presentations on laptops, flash drives, cloud, etc. Remote mouse devices/pointers are the responsibility of the presenter. Apple users will be responsible for also providing their own adaptor for connection to the projector. *Program Handouts & Evaluations* - Printed handouts will not be reproduced by MLA for the conference. Presenters may provide handouts themselves if desired. - Handouts may be posted to the MLA website before the conference. Call for handouts will be on March 13, 2015. *Selection Criteria* The Spring Institute work group will use the following criteria in assessing the viability of including a program on the schedule. Former Poet Laureate Phiilp Levine reading October 19 in Alpena

The Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library is presenting former Poet Laureate and Detroit native Philip Levine at the Alpena High School Auditorium on Sunday, October 19 at 7pm. A reception and signing follow the reading. Levine has published numerous books of poetry. He has won a Pulitizer Prize for poetry and several of his books have won a National Book Award. He was Poet Laureate of the United States from 2011-2012. Tickets are $10 and are available on the Library’s website www.alpenalibrary.org or at the door.
