Great Lakes Resource Sharing Conference – Final Call for Proposals

**The deadline for submitting proposals is fast approaching – please consider submitting a proposal.** On behalf of the Conference Program Committee, we would like to invite you to submit a proposal for the Great Lakes Resource Sharing Conference. The event will be held in Kalamazoo, Michigan at the Radisson on Friday, June 5, 2015. This conference is an opportunity for individuals working in resource sharing to gather information and communicate with other colleagues. We invite program proposals from September 15, 2014 to January 16, 2015. Accepted program proposal submissions should be 45 minutes in length including time for questions. Proposals might focus on any of the following areas: · Resource Sharing Best Practices · Marketing Services · Electronic Resources and Resource Sharing · Workflow improvements · Cooperative collection development · Consortial or Group Purchasing · Purchase on Demand · Reciprocal Borrowing · Shared Staffing and Training · Shared Discover Layers · E-Books Please submit a 150-200 word proposal for your presentation via the GLRSC website. Help finding the the title of a book

Hi all, I am trying to help a patron find a book he read about 5 years ago. He can't remember the title or the author but he gave me this description. I didn't have any luck with the catalog or Google. The name of the main character is Rowena (that may not be the correct spelling). Rowena was a princess who was kidnapped from her father's castle and was taken someplace where she was held captive and was to be forced into marriage. Something happened and she was sent in front of the Spanish Inquisition. She was found guilty and sent to a dungeon where she was tortured and raped by a nasty troll like man. He was a hunchback and the dungeon keeper. His name might have been Troas. A prince from the area where she was from was looking for Rowena - the patron doesn't remember if he saved her or not. Winter Walk & Read collaboration with the State Parks

Good afternoon, the following state parks are plowing loops in their park or campgrounds this winter. The parks want to partner with local libraries and co-promote weekly walking groups at the parks. For example, a Friday "Mommy & Me" walk at the park, followed by hot cocoa and story time at the library. Or a Winter Walkers/Silver Sneakers group who could walk at the park, then warm up with good book discussion at the library. For those places with a lot of snow, there are snowshoes that could be used for a Snowshoe 101 program. As an fyi, the Summer Reading and Teen Tech Week. The deadline for each is January 1st and you must be a YALSA (Young Adult Library Services Association) member to be eligible. For more information, see below. Apply for a 2015 Teen Tech Week(tm) Grant! Now through Jan. 1, 2015, YALSA members can apply for one of twenty $1,000 grants to support their digital literacy programming. The grant is meant to help libraries boost their collections by providing funds to purchase reading materials, especially those that help English Language Learners and struggling readers. * YALSA will provide 20 libraries with $1,000 each to recruit, train and compensate teen assistants to help with summer reading programs.
