Speaker Recommendation
by Elizabeth Campion 25 Jun '15

25 Jun '15

Last night the Shelby Township Library hosted Civil War reenactor Tim Puzzella from the Multi Lakes Association for Civil War Studies. We had about 30 people in attendance and he was very well received. Several people thanked us for having him after the program. He wore era-appropriate clothing and shared a lot of equipment that either a Union or Confederate soldier would have used or carried during the war. Mr. Puzzella does not charge a fee but he does request that a donation be made to his non-profit organization, amount is up to the library. He works as a school teacher during the school year so he is most available in summers. Elizabeth Campion, Librarian Shelby Township Library 586-739-7414 -- A library is a miracle. A place where you can learn just about anything for free. A place where your mind can come alive." Josh Hanagarne, *The World's Strongest Librarian*

QSAC measures AND certifications are on a three-year update and renewal schedule to ensure the measures and libraries stay on top of quality service. The Library of Michigan works with volunteer librarians every three years to revise the measures based on participating libraries' experiences and new trends in library services, programs and technology. It is our goal that QSAC measures will continue to provide direction and support for libraries as they look to both improve their services and justify their services to funders. New MAP Partner/Destination (Number 384) Added AND One Month In: Update
by Jim Flury 25 Jun '15

25 Jun '15

All, I am very pleased to announce the addition of a brand new partner venue to the Michigan Activity Pass program. Michigan's Heritage Park in Whitehall http://www.lakeshoremuseum.org/project/michigan-heritage-park/ is our 384th MAP destination. Welcome to MAP, MHP! And, we are talking to a potential 385th partner! I won't name them yet, as this is still tentative, but I can tell you that their base of operation is about as far north in the Lower Peninsula, or about as far south in the Upper Peninsula, as you can go, and that their name is similar to that of the first name of the character named Horshack from the Welcome Back, Kotter television series of the 1970's, and... Statewide, Year 3 of MAP went live one month ago, on May 24. I perused the checkout stats a bit, and was very pleased to see that thanks to your hard work to promote the program, MAP checkouts for the first month stand at nearly 66% of the TOTAL circulation for the FULL 12 MONTHS of last year's program. Two-thirds as many passes were borrowed in the first month of new MAP as were issued in 12 months of old MAP! Keep up the great work, everyone! We will distribute MAP stats for the period late May and June, 2015 during the first week of July. Last week a TLN library sent us a plastic display holder that contained a copy of a MAP promotional piece from 2012. In looking at this now historic artifact, we were reminded as to how far the program has come in a very short time. The MAP program debuted in Fall, 2007 with 30 partner destinations and public libraries in six metro Detroit counties. That program ran very successfully for five years. At the end of the five year period the sponsor decided to go in a different direction, leaving us with a decision to make. Since MAP usage was and still is, highest during the summer months, we opted to run an abbreviated version of the program for the period May 25, 2012 through September 3, 2012, again with public libraries in six counties. We had 24 partner venues, including some who've been with us since 2007 such as the Detroit Institute of Arts, Howell Nature Center, Arts & Scraps, Anton Art Center, and the Arab American National Museum. At the end of the abbreviated official MAP 2012 season the circulation numbers were good enough that we decided to extend the program into the Fall, knowing we still had to make a decision regarding the future. For Spring, 2013 we decided to take the program from paper checkout cards and passes to all online, and to include all of Michigan's nearly 400 public libraries in 640 buildings in 83 counties, with 60 cultural partner venues. As word caught on that MAP could offer potential cultural partners good promotional value at little or no cost, more destinations joined, which brought us to 100+. This year brought new sponsors, in the form of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Department of Natural Resources, and Michigan Recreation and Parks Association, and the huge expansion of the program with the addition of the nearly 240 DNR sites, bringing us to where we are today, with 640 library buildings and 384 partner destinations. Tomorrow, who knows? Soar and Explore! Thank you for your support and promotion of the Michigan Activity Pass program. Speaker on Digital Reader's Advisory
by Kate Kloor 24 Jun '15

24 Jun '15

Hello! I am looking for a librarian who has successfully integrated social media or other digital outlets to provide reader's advisory for their community and who would be interested in sharing their story. The Library Network is putting together an adult services seminar for member librarians in Southeastern Michigan this fall and looking for someone (or perhaps a panel) to speak for about an hour. Please let me know if this is something your library has done. I can fill you in on the details and see if it would be a good fit. Thanks so much, Kate Kloor Kate Kloor Adult Services Librarian Orion Township Public Library 248.693.3000 x308

Summer Reading Updated DVD graphics
by Reish, Karren (MDE) 24 Jun '15

Please see below for information on how to get the pdf forms without the guidelines. If you have any issues, let me know. Thanks! Karren Reish Library Grants Coordinator Library of Michigan 517-241-0021 reishk(a)michigan.gov<mailto:reishk@michigan.gov> Sent: Wednesday, June 24, 2015 12:49 PM Subject: 2015 CSLP Updated DVD content of graphics It was discovered that the PDF Forms & Handouts on the 2015 CSLP graphic CD/DVD for each program had edit guidelines on each page. Unfortunately this was not caught before the CD/DVD's were distributed to libraries. Upstart has corrected the problem and the corrections have been uploaded for all of the PDF Forms & Handouts for all 4 programs to the CSLP website. Also several other programming corrections and additions have been loaded to the CSLP website. To find these corrections and additions, please go to the CSLP website at: http://cslpreads.org. Once you log into the site on the toolbar, go to: Membership & Sponsorship --> Member Libraries --> Proprietary Downloads --> 2015 Graphics and Reproducible Files. Each program link directs you to an alphabetical list of all PDF forms from that manual. For the Disney Villain game and the Jeopardy Heroes Unmasked game, please click on the 2015 Program Corrections and Additions. We apologize for the inconvenience. If you have any problems getting to the corrections, please contact the CSLP office at 1-866-657-8556 and ask for Karen. ************************
