Up, Up and Away With MAP: Twice As Nice As Last Year, In Less Than Three Months!!!
by Jim Flury 20 Aug '15

20 Aug '15

All, I am very pleased to share some great MAP-related statistical news with you. As you know, Year 3 of the statewide Michigan Activity Pass program went live about three months ago. Thanks to a lot of hard work on the part of sponsors, library staff, and our software engineer/programmer, awareness and usage of MAP is up, way up, Up, Up and Away up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUQghiaG4cU I remember when WJR used to play this song, which tells you I've been around a while, and also that AM radio has changed just a tad since the 1960's. So how up is up? MAP Year 3 went live just prior to Memorial Day. From go-live to today, you have circulated TWICE AS MANY MAP passes in Year 3 as was the case for the entire twelve month period of MAP Year 2!!! And that's not just a bunch of hot air. Keep up the great work, everybody. Thank you for your promotion, sponsorship and hard work on behalf of the Michigan Activity Pass program. Up, Up and Away! Sincerely, Jim Flury Jim Flury Technical Services Manager The Library Network 41365 Vincenti Court Novi, MI 48375 248-536-3100 x133 Fax 248-536-3098 jflury(a)tln.lib.mi.us

Library page question
by Kristin Lalonde 19 Aug '15

19 Aug '15

Hello all, I was wondering how many of you work at a library where you have the pages work both the circulation desk and do shelving? My library has this set up and I was hoping to find other libraries that are similarly set up. Fw: ALA invites public to nominate librarians for the 2015 I Love My Librarian Award
by Steven K. Bowers 19 Aug '15

19 Aug '15

From: Don Wood <dwood(a)ala.org> Sent: Wednesday, August 19, 2015 10:14 AM Subject: ALA invites public to nominate librarians for the 2015 I Love My Librarian Award CHICAGO – The American Library Association (ALA) asks library users to nominate librarians who have transformed lives and communities through education and lifelong learning for its coveted 2015 I Love My Librarian Award. The award invites library users nationwide to recognize the public service of exceptional public, school, college, community college or university librarians. Library users can nominate their favorite librarians now through Sept. 28 by visiting http://www.ilovelibraries.org/lovemylibrarian. Each year since the award’s inception in 2008, the ALA selects up to 10 librarians from a pool of thousands of nominations. Award winners will each receive a $5,000 cash award, a plaque and a travel stipend to attend the I Love My Librarian Award ceremony and reception in New York City on Dec. 3, 2015, hosted by Carnegie Corporation of New York. Each nominee must be a librarian with a master’s degree from a program accredited by the ALA in library and information studies or hold a master’s degree with a specialty in school library media from an educational program accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. Nominees must be currently working in the United States in a public library, a library at an accredited two- or four-year college or university or at an accredited K-12 school. In the award’s first seven years, library supporters nationwide shared more than 14,000 nominations for exceptional librarians. A total of 70 librarians have won the award to date. For more information regarding previous award winners, please visit http://ilovelibraries.org/lovemylibrarian/2014/14winners. The I Love My Librarian Award is generously sponsored by Carnegie Corporation of New York. This year the ALA welcomes The New York Public Library as a co-sponsor.
