Hello Everyone- The incoming president of our library's Friends group is a development director for a non-profit and is encouraging our Friends group, Library Board and Staff to better educate ourselves about fundraising, and especially the possibility of legacy gifts for our library. To that end we are bringing in Bill Winkler, a speaker from the Leave a Legacy Speakers' bureau of the Planned Giving Round Table of Southeast Michigan. This is a professional organization of development directors and estate planning professionals helping to educate their membership and the general public about legacy gifts and estate planning. Bill will be presenting at the Novi Public Library on Friday, December 11th at 10am. This is a free and open event intended for Directors, Trustees, Staff and Friends. See all the details below. Every Child Ready to Read program announcement!

The Library of Michigan is pleased to announce that we are launching a two year Every Child Ready to Read (ECRR) program. This program is based on the American Library Association Every Child Ready to Read materials. You can find more information about the program at www.everychildreadytoread.org/<http://www.everychildreadytoread.org/>. The full program description is at www.michigan.gov/youthlibraryservices<http://www.michigan.gov/youthlibraryservices> in the Every Child Ready to Read section. The program will include a free copy of the Every Child Ready to Read training materials for Michigan public libraries and a two-year training and continuing education program. You do NOT need to participate in training in order to request materials. Please complete this survey to request materials. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2016ECRR. Materials will be distributed in January 2016 on a first come, first served basis until materials run out. Those who respond to the survey by Wednesday, December 23rd will have their materials shipped by the first week of January. The training program details will be announced no later than early January 2016 and will include daylong workshops in March 2016 and March 2017, training sessions at Rural Libraries Conference in May 2016, a webinar series and a newsletter series. Library Cards

Hi.We are adjusting to charging for non-resident cards...it's very hard. Next step, what do you do for school of choice students that use your library? Do you have an individual student card with a different amount, or the same amount, or no amount? Not all libraries are visiting patron, I try to use that as a first resort. Positive changes, imo... 1. No more one year licenses for Penguin eBooks. Instead, perpetual access, as Random House eBooks are now. 2. Reduction in price cap from $85.00 to $65.00 for PRH eBooks. Users directly searching the MeL Databases at http://mel.org/Databases will be verified that they are in Michigan based on the IP address of their workstation. If the IP isn't recognized as being in Michigan, patrons will NOT be able to use the optional remote login screen via driver's license or an account at a MeLCat library. 2. Libraries with direct URLs to the MeL Databases should be able to access the databases if their library IP is registered with the database vendor. If you need to register your library IP address, go to http://mcls.org/ipupdates 3.The MeL Discovery service (at http://search.mel.org<http://search.mel.org/> and on http://mel.org)<http://mel.org),/> and the "Search" buttons on the MeL Gateways have been temporarily removed.
