Good morning, I am on the planning committee for the 2016 Alpena Book Festival and in the course of contacting authors to participate there has been a common suggestion, bringing in a literary agent or two. Many aspiring writers attended last year and the presence of an agent could be an excellent resource. Hello All, I am seeking information about copyright compliance on historic copies of local public school yearbooks. If anyone out there in library land has had their local yearbook collection digitized and hosted to a cloud so it is accessible from the library website can you tell me how you obtained permission and how did you figure out who to obtain permission from. Hi, Does anyone have a template that they use for handouts for parents. I am referring to the handouts you would give to parents after a storytime with the rhymes, books, and songs you used. We are moving back to doing this in the fall and I wanted to get a jump on it. Hi all, You've heard it said that the Michigan eLibrary has resources for just about everyone, but, until you get that one inquiry that is a real stumper, you might not realize just how "deep" the content is. Geared to the college/university level, it is a reliable source for peer-reviewed content from leading journals and reference sources. Is the patron interested in genetic DNA or mitochondrial haplogroups or invertebrate paleontology? Have no fear. Academic OneFile<http://www.galesupport.com/migeoipcheck/migeoipcheck-gale.php?database=AONE> has recent scholarly journal articles on all three topics. Don't overlook the Browse by Disciple feature and Topic Finder tool which can lead to related connections for any search. Friends' use of library space

Hi all-- We are planning for a new building--woo hoo!--and of course, I want the Friends to have book sale space rather than hauling box after box of books to the meeting room five times per year. I find plenty of libraries with book stores or sale areas and my board wants to know what the libraries charge for the Friends of the Library to use that space, or what other types of contracts/agreements/arrangements are in place. New MAP Partner Destination: You Figure It Out. Hint: It's A Biggie!

All, I am pleased to announce a brand new partner venue, our 426th, for the Michigan Activity Pass program. Usually I tell you what the new destination is. That's too easy. So this time I am going to make a game of it. Here are some hints: 1. This destination is going to be tremendously popular with library users. It will be top five in terms of MAP checkouts for sure, perhaps even number one once people catch on to the fact that it is there. 2. It traces its roots back to a guy named Ole. 3. It is located in Auburn Hills. This will be easy for a group of information pros to guess. If you don't want to be bothered playing games, though, just go to the MAP website at http://michiganactivitypass.info and see the welcome message in red. Your patrons (and your own children and grandchildren, if you are so blessed) are going to love this one! Thank you for your promotion and support of the Michigan Activity Pass program. Residency requirements and non-resident fees

I would like to ask Class I, II, and III libraries in particular a few questions about your requirements for getting a library card. Our policy has always been you have to live in our district to have a free card. If you do not live in our district you can purchase a non-resident card for $20 per year. Two county wide library systems adjacent to us have looser policies. One of them will give a free card with full access to all of their resources to anyone who applies. They like to joke if you have a pulse you can have a card. The other system gives a free card to anyone living within the boundaries of the Cooperative, but folks outside their service area cannot use the electronic resources. Another library in our county is in the process of setting up reciprocal borrowing agreements with neighboring libraries who want to participate. For a variety of reasons, my board is considering changing our policy on this. My questions are: 1. What are your requirements to get a free, full access library card? 2. Do you have a non-resident fee? If so how much, and who has to purchase a card to have full access? 3. If you give a free card to people who do not live in your service area, is it because of a formal or informal agreement with other libraries in your area or coop? 4. Do you have any problems, other than the usual, with patrons who do not live in your service area as far as returning materials, etc.? One more note, we live in a popular resort area so have a lot of transient visitors and boaters staying in the harbor for part of the year.
