On behalf of Kim Schroeder, Wayne State University: There is still time to register for Wayne State University's School of Library and Information Science Annual Career Fair on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. This event has brought employers and potential employees together for nearly 20 years. It is an excellent opportunity to increase awareness of your organization among SLIS's students and alumni. We hope that you will consider promoting your organization and recruiting our students and alumni for your professional job openings. Wayne State's School of Library and Information Science is among the largest ALA-accredited MLIS programs in the United States and Canada. We currently have approximately 500 enrolled students. On average, 80 LIS students graduate each semester and enter the profession ready to apply the core principles of librarianship - information access, organization, services, management, and archival skills- as well as implement emerging technologies such data analytics, information architecture and web site development across a variety of information intensive environments. Attending this event will provide you with opportunities to network and share employment and internship information with our students. You will also find that you will advise and impact students who may be interested in working for your organization in the future. Our future information professionals are eager to learn about your organization and the skills, abilities and attributes you seek in potential employees. I posted a week or so ago regarding background check services. Here is what I learned: Of the libraries who respnded, several are using the INternet Criminal History Access Tool (ICHAT) through the Michigan State Police. This service is free to libraries and you can apply at https://www.michigan.go*v/ichat* <https://www.michigan.gov/> Also: "Sentrylink for nationwide background checks, and Mi IChat for Michigan." "We use Rehmann. My contact is Anne McDonald. anne.mcdonald(a)rehmann.com Last time we used them standard background check was $150. This includes driving record check. I believe this includes a county criminal check, but you will have to verify it. OORDINATOR OF YOUTH SERVICES Traverse Area District Library Traverse City, Michigan The Traverse Area District Library, headquartered in Traverse City, Michigan, is searching for an enthusiastic, well‐rounded and technologically savvy professional librarian to serve as Coordinator of Youth Services. The successful candidate will be responsible for the execution of innovative and exciting library services throughout the library district for children from birth through age 12 and have a thorough understanding of budgeting and collection development practices. Located in one of the Midwest’s most desirable communities, the region is home to Northwestern Michigan College, Interlochen Center for the Arts, the Traverse City Film Festival, the National Cherry Festival, and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The Traverse Area District Library serves a population of 90,000; Grand Traverse County and three additional contracted townships. The staff of 70 is partially unionized. The three branch libraries have a total budget of over $4.8 million and circulate over 1.25 million items annually. The position requires a Master’s Degree in Library Science or equivalent ALA accredited degree with a minimum of three years of relevant public library experience, including some supervisory experience. Salary range: $48,000 ‐ $53,000 commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits. Student ID numbers as library cards

I recently viewed the Library of Michigan SRP webinar about the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Libraries use of student ID numbers as a limited library card (ex. access to online content, 10 book/audiobook limit, no CDs/DVDs, more info here: https://www.cmlibrary.org/oneaccess) We have talked among our library leadership about the logistics of a One Access-type student account for Westland students and were curious if there are any other public libraries in Michigan pursuing something similar with their school district. Specifically, we are curious how your school district boundaries mirror your library district boundaries? Hello Everyone, You were all so helpful in providing feedback on our revised Mission, I am hoping you can provide feedback on our revised Guiding Principles. At the top is the Current set and below is the Proposed set. Current WFB Public Library Guiding Principles Three core strategies that drive and inspire our Action Plan as set forth by the Library Board of Trustees and implemented by the Library Director and Library Staff. Access We will: * strive for excellence in building and maintaining a balanced collection that reflects both classic and popular materials, is easily accessed by all age groups, and is valued by the community. * provide for material requests and information outside the library's resources with the use of interlibrary loan, database retrieval and other reliable technology. * embrace technology trends that enhance the lives of our patrons. Service We will: * make patron service a top priority and hire and retain well qualified, professional staff that are friendly, approachable, and identifiable. * be proactive in soliciting suggestions for service, hours, material and programming. * participate in ongoing continuing education for staff that leads to job improvement and performance. * provide regularly scheduled programming and event programming for all ages that is educational and/or entertaining .
