Reminder to all library folks out there - you are invited to attend Library Camp: An Unconference next week! It takes place Friday, April 15, 2016 from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. This event is intended for information professionals and graduate students with an interest in libraries. It's an informal, unconference-style gathering intended to bring people to share ideas, technologies, and to spark discussion. Library Camp is free to attend and will be held at the Downtown Library at 343 South Fifth Avenue, Ann Arbor, MI. It's not too late to attend! Just click here to register . The goal is to get a bunch of people together, and let them talk about whatever they'd like to talk about, within the rough purview of libraries and library technology. We'll start with a blank schedule and start the day with a discussion of topics we'd like to talk about to fill in the agenda. We've got time for four sessions and room for at least 4 concurrent sessions, so there could easily be 10-12 different things to talk about during the day. Bring your ideas and quandaries. Upcoming Programs at Warren Civic Center Library

Hello - Pewabic Pottery, a ceramic studio and school, was founded in Detroit, MI in 1903. They are known for their irridescent glazed tiles, which grace notable buildings through the United States. Join us for a presentation on their founders and history, along with a tour of the display in our showcases. The program will be held on Thursday, April 14 at 6:00 pm in the Warren Civic Center Conference Room. A raffle will be held for a free tile - must be present to win! Money Smart Week: The Warren Public Library is proud to host these upcoming events in the spirit of helping others to keep their ledgers in the black and their pockets filled with green! 1: Identity Theft - Learn how to prevent being a victim as well as the steps to follow if someone steals your identity. Glenn Clark from the Michigan Attorney General's Office and Colleen Godfrey, a consumer education specialist, from the Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union will present. This program will be held Monday, April 18 at 6:00 pm in the Warren Civic Center Conference Room. 2: Power Over Debt - This workshop will highlight ways to avoid debt and build a more secure future. Discussions include understanding and improving your credit report and score, as well as steps to tackling debt through identifying spending habits and budgeting. Colleen Godfrey from the Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union will present. This program will be held Tuesday, April 26 at 6:00 pm in the Warren Civic Center Conference Room. Eighteen authors from the Pointes and Metro-Detroit will be participating, including Ann Marie Aliotta, Margaret Carroll, Karen Dionne, Karen Dybis, Kelly Fordon, Sandy Novacek, and William Rapai. Michigan Notable Book Tour - Delta College

She will be at Delta College to discuss her book on April 12, 2016. Great Girls in Michigan History, Patricia Majher Date: Tuesday April 12, 2016 Time: 2 pm to 3 pm Place: Room S105 - Delta College Admission: Free Great Girls in Michigan History, Patricia Majher, Wayne State University Press Great Girls in Michigan History highlights 20 girls from Michigan's past who did amazing things before they turned twenty years old. Featured are aviator Nancy Harkness (Love), pioneer Anna Howard Shaw, escaped slave Dorothy Butler, professional baseball player Marilyn Jenkins, union leader Myra Komaroff (Wolfgang), and Native American writer Jane Johnston (Schoolcraft). Other more famous figures-including First Lady Betty Bloomer (Ford), jockey Julie Krone, Motown star Diana Ross, and tennis champion Serena Williams are also included. Patricia Majher is a graduate of Central Michigan University where she received a BA in journalism. She earned her MS in historic preservation at Eastern Michigan University after which she joined the Mackinac State Historic Parks division as the public relations and marketing officer. She currently serves as editor of Michigan History magazine and was the assistant director/curator at the Michigan Women's Historical Center and Hall of Fame. Great Girls in Michigan History is her second book. Her first was titled Ladies of the Lights: Michigan Women in the U.S. Lighthouse Service.
