Dear Friends, The submission deadline to nominate an individual or an organization for an Upper Peninsula History Award is quickly approaching - we need your nominations by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 29. You can download the nomination form here: http://www.hsmichigan.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/UP-History-Award-Nomina tion.pdf For individuals, please consider nominating that person for the Charles Follo Award. The Follo Award is given to an individual who has made the most outstanding contribution to the preservation and promotion of Upper Peninsula history. For historical organizations, please consider nominating them for the Superior Award. The Superior Award recognizes historical societies, museums, and other historical organizations that have preserved and advanced Upper Peninsula history. The awards will be presented during our annual U.P. History Conference, which will be held in Munising this year, on June 24-26. Time is short. In cased you miss her appearances in the Detroit area, we are hosting Barbara VanderMolen, author of the two volume set Discovering Michigan County by County, in Ionia in a couple of weeks. We are looking forward to her fun, fact-filled talk as we ramble through our state's beautiful peninsulas one county at a time. Just a reminder that the webinar is next Tuesday. _______________________________________ The Every Child Ready to Read (ECRR) project has had a great start with the workshops and webinar with Sue McCleaf Nespeca last month. We are continuing with more webinars and newsletters throughout the rest of this year. The next webinar is Early Learning Environments, based on Every Child Ready to Read principles. adding electrical power to a library

Hi all, We are responding to our students request for more electrical outlets for their devices. The traditional wall outlets are inconvenient for how students work/study in the library. They typically do collaborative work at the larger desks. We are thinking about bringing outlets into those desks in the center of the library. The problem is that we have a concrete floor and it is difficult, and monetarily prohibitive to drill into it. So, we are looking for power sources originating from the ceiling. We are contemplating installing poles or pull down extension cords with multiple outlets on them. But, we are struggling with how this would ruin the aesthetics of our building. Does anyone have this type of ceiling drop down power source? Or, a different power source? Any ideas on how we could make them more pleasing to the eye? You all are a great resource and I look forward to hearing from you.
