Write Michigan Call for Volunteer Reviewers

Hi all, Kent District Library and our partner Schuler Books are working to finalize our list of volunteer reviewers for the 2017 Write Michigan Short Story contest. To find out more about the contest, you can visit our webpage at www.writemichigan.org<http://www.writemichigan.org>. Volunteer reviewers read and rate the short story submissions in order to determine the top ten semi-finalists. Details: -The short story contest has three age categories - adult (18+), teen (12-17) and youth (11 and under). Writers need to live in Michigan (students count). This year we have added a Spanish-Language contest category for all ages. So if you happen to be literate in Spanish, please indicate on the information I am collecting below. -Winners earn cash prizes and are included in a printed anthology. -Volunteers read about 10-13 stories each (depending on the category and how many submissions we read). Each story is read by two people. -Stories are anonymous (unless the author includes their name on the PDF). -We ask you not to review in the category where you or someone you know (family or friend) is entering. -Submissions are available to volunteers online. Each volunteer has a login. -Reading/reviewing takes place between Monday, December 5 and Friday, December 30. Every year, we have reviewers that can't complete their assignments (life happens). So now, we ask reviewers if they could review a few stories last minute and it is so helpful. Please indicate below if you would be willing to do that too. Those reviews would happen Friday, December 31 - Tuesday, January 3 (you would get an email on Friday, December 30 for your new assignment). Ready to go? The Board of Trustees seeks candidates who want to expand opportunities for Montclair's 38,000+ residents. The Library, through its early literacy efforts, the Open Book Open Mind 2015 conversation series, and its partnership with the Adult School of Montclair, focuses on lifelong learning. In addition, the Library supports its citizens through outreach efforts such as the BookBike (funded through a crowdsourcing campaign), the Book a Librarian service, and hotspot loaning program. Neatly 68% of Montclair residents carry a Montclair Library card and check out 440,000 items annually and attend 1,600 programs-and the committed staff of 36 FTE served more than 375,000 visitors last year. With an annual budget of $3.9 million and financial support from the Montclair Public Library Foundation and Montclair Library Friends, the Montclair Public Library continues to provide stellar programs and services inside and outside its four walls at its two locations. The new Montclair Public Library Director, through relationship building and responsiveness to the community, will work effectively with community leaders, lead successful fundraising efforts and be an active, vital member of the Montclair community. Responsibilities. The Library Director, under the supervision of the Board of Trustees, manages and directs the operations of the Library.
