Penal Fines drastic cut
by WCCL Amy Stockwell 06 Aug '25

06 Aug '25

Hello, I am just checking to see if other counties had a drastic cut to their penal fines this year? Our County just paid out and it was HALF what all of us had budgeted for the year, based on the past 10+ years. Was there a diversion of funds from Penal Fines that I didn’t catch or is my county just not issuing enough fines? 😊 Thanks!

Notary Question
by Director 06 Aug '25

06 Aug '25

Good afternoon, In the past year, our library began offering notary services to the public and I am the designated notary. I noticed that some libraries do not notarize real estate documents or estate documents, like trusts, wills, Power of Attorney, deeds, or closing documents, even though I believe technically Michigan notaries would have the authority to do so. Is there a reason for this? Our library is located in a very rural area and there are not many options for finding a notary, so we often receive these requests and I would like to help if possible. However, I do not want to start notarizing these documents if there is good reason not to. I would be happy to share responses if anyone would like to have them as well. Thank you in advance! Thank you, Kelsey Rutkowski *--------------------------------------* *Library Director* *Indian River Area Library* 3546 S Straits Hwy PO Box 160 Indian River, MI 49749 (231) 238-8581 indianriverlibrary.org

Ignore any SPAM emails from me
by Lisa Waskin 05 Aug '25

05 Aug '25

Apparently, I've been spammed. If you get an email supposedly from me asking for payment of some sort with a signature that has me as the MCLS President, please know that it isn't me. Yes, I am currently the President, but that is not my email signature nor am I sending random emails asking for money around the state. People are looking into it. Please just delete the email.
